Pressure differences between ffm and nasal
Pressure differences between ffm and nasal
Since I have gone back and forth between a ffm and a nasal mask a question came to mind. If I am running with a CPAP pressure of 12 will the pressure be the same whether I am using a ffm or a nasal mask? I was titrated on a nasal mask. Not sure if the size of the gear affects the end result in pressure.
Re: Pressure differences between ffm and nasal
Should be no signifigant difference. Some machines allow you to input the type of mask you are using.

Re: Pressure differences between ffm and nasal
...but there can be a difference for some of us. You should check your data carefully. I have controlled leaks to nearly flat line on the readouts for both my FFM and my nasal pillow mask. Pretty consistent AHI averaging about 1.0 with nasal pillow, but with the FFM as same pressure and controlled leaks, I was up around 4.0!--Had to increase my pressure by a full point for the FFM to just get it down to an average of about 2.0. When I increased more than that, my AHI increased, as did my leak problems which I could never reconcile. So the 1.0 increase for my FFM is giving me the best I can get, despite that it is not as good a result as the pillow mask. No idea why this is necessary, but it seems to vary from person to person.LSAT wrote:Should be no signifigant difference.
DeVilbiss IntelliPap Std Plus with Smartflex; Transcend miniCPAP & Everest2 w/humidifier & batt for travel. UltraMirage FFM; PadACheeks; PaPillow. Using straight CPAP at 13.0/passover humidifier. AHI consistently < 1.5. Began CPAP 9/4/08.

Thanks. I thought I saw someone mention before about inputting the type of mask you were using into the machine but didn't see that with mine.
