HELP: Seeking SpO2 Review Software V1.0 or latest

Post by torontoCPAPguy » Mon Oct 04, 2010 3:58 pm

Seeking latest version of SpO2 Review software from Contec for my CMS50E's. One came with it and I promptly misplaced the disk. The other came with an earlier version. Does anyone have a link to the latest version? Thanks in advance.

Thanks very much. Was sent a copy of this software by another forum user and it seems to work fine on Vista.... much faster than the earlier releases.

Well, if you have been following my posts/threads you will know that personally I feel very strongly that one should have a data providing APAP machine like the ResMed S9 Autoset to actually see what is going on in terms of events, mask efficiency, etc. And I feel even more strongly that every APAP/CPAP user should own one of these inexpensive pulse oximeters. I chose the Contec CMS50E after much research and experimentation.. it is fingertip only, rechargeable lithium polymer battery, 24 hour data recording, etc. It permits one to, in the absence of an EEG, get better insight perhaps into whether or not you are getting any REM sleep AND even more importantly, it indicates graphically during your sleep period what your SpO2 (blood oxygen concentration, sorta) and pulse look like. If one can match up an 'event' from the S9 (like an apnea event or a hypopnea event) with SpO2 desat and with an increase in pulse rate... one can pretty much assume that something bad is happening.... REM has been entered and interrupted; shallow breathing has desturated SpO2 and increased pulse rate = skyrocketing BP generally = a bad thing, etc. It is one more diagnostic tool and for $150 is well worth the investment. I have used mine to produce a graphical analysis over a period of weeks that I presented to my new pulmonologist who immediately prescribed supplemental nightime oxygen in a small quantity (i.e. 2 - 3 L/M). It seems to be improving my sleep pattern as my body gets used to it. Not just that, but the oxygen getting to my vital organs has improved and general well-being seems to be improving somewhat. Certainly my medications are working differently as my liver gets its full share of oxygen from my bloodstream.

Not that supplemental O2 is the finite solution; the pulmonologist has ordered up three full pages of tests at the hospital to get a baseline and to check me for allergies/asthma/lung function, etc.

The short answer is that a pulse oximeter is simply one more diagnostic tool that will provide your MD's more clinical data to work with and will provide you with reassurance that your SpO2 is staying pretty much above 90% through the night. Mine was dropping down into the 70's occasionally and that is "he died peacefully in his sleep" territory.
