Yay! I'm getting a ResMed S9 to replace this S8

Post by CindySue in Indiana » Tue Sep 28, 2010 5:30 pm

Thanks to you guys, I asked my DME for the newer S9 machine (they brought me the S8) about a week and half ago.
She said they were on backorder and should be here in a couple of weeks and she's have to get the doctor to sign off on it.
She called today for something else and said she spoke to the doctor and he gave her approval for the S9 machine....I guess he signed off to
give me the "upgraded" machine and she said they sent it off to the insurance company and they have approved it, so she ordered me one.
Not sure what happened to the ones suppose to arrive in a couple of weeks, but I don't care. All I care is that I am getting one!!! Yay!!!
If I hadn't come to this board I would have never even known anything about it and the fact I didn't have the latest model.

Now, after i get it....do I need software for the data? Not sure how all of that works, so if any of you with the S9 will share with me what to do to
get my data, that would be great!

On another note...3 nights on the full face mask and I'm sleeping so much better and feeling great during the day! Yay!!! I'm living again!

... which means you want an S9 AutoSet or S9 Elite.

Just say no to the S9 Escape or S9 Escape Auto.

OH NO, I just told her the S9....but I did tell her more than once that I want to see my data, so that should tell her, right?
I just put a call in to her to ask what she ordered...had to leave her a message. I hope she got me the right now, cause I don't know if they'd
change it again. BUT, she KNOWS I want to read my data!!!!
Thanks guys, for all your help!

Whew! She just called back...she had ordered me the S9 AutoSet. She said it's the very newest! She did say the doctor wants my number to be pre-set (not on Auto), but that's ok with me. Awesome....I think I'm getting the RIGHT machine!!! Never thought I'd get so excited over a sleep machine...LOL!
Thanks guys!

Cindysue in indiana. Good job! You are our poster child of the week! Less than 2 weeks and feeling so much better....accepting strange stuff stuck to your face in your sleep.....Having a considerate dme.....You are the envy of the newby-neighborhood. Lots of knowledge out here for sure, isn't there. jlk

Look at it carefully before you sign anything; they have a S9 escape that looks nearly identical; but you will not have therapy data.

I will chunkyfrog...I appreciate the advice.
I'm pretty sure I'm getting the Auto because when she called me back, she said it was the newest they had...S9 auto (before I even mentioned it to her).
And I specifically told her I didn't want the Escape and she said, no, the doctor ordered the S9 Auto for you, BUT he does NOT want you to use the "auto"...he wants
the pressure pre-set by me. So, I feel pretty confident I'm getting the right one. But with your advice, I'll be extra careful before I sign that paper!
I'm just glad it didn't turn into a major hassle to get it. She cooperated...the doctor cooperated...the insurance company cooperated...so, it went pretty smoothly.

Now, she said the insurance company basically "rents to own"....they pay rental for 10 months (I think) and then it's my machine.
So, why wouldn't I want to start out with the newest, best model??? Why did they bring me the S8 in the first place? Probably because they had it in stock, right?
I was a bit surprised she said they had to order me an S9, since last week she told me they were on backorder and they expected a shipment of them in a couple of weeks, so I could have one of them. Oh well....all I care is that i'm getting one. Yay!!! I think she's finding out fast that I'm not her "average customer". LOL! She's been really nice and helpful though, so no problems with her like the rest of you have had. I think we'll get along just fine. :=)

My insurance is paying everything at 100% right now (because I've had so much medical done this year that I've met all of my deductible and my "out of pocket", so I figure they'll pay the rent on this for the rest of the year. After that, I'm not sure (probably 80%). How much rent do you guys pay for your machines? Hope I can afford it after all this..LOL! She said she'd make sure I have lots of supplies in December before my insurance rolls over.

LOL jlk! I don't think I've ever been a poster child before...unless it was "poster child of disorganized"! Believe me, I was a very motivated patient because I already had a "head's up" on how much better I'd feel, since I'd been on oxygen since April. There was no turning back for me because I knew the difference it would make! I think that made it easier for me than someone who just goes for two sleep studies and then has this thing forced on their face and they haven't really been able to feel the results of it first. I KNEW I was a totally new and different person on the oxygen.....so I KNEW it would be worth it! I have enjoyed "living again" for the past 4 months, so there was no option than to get used to the mask!

Yep, I'm feeling good! Had a little trouble with my mask last night and not real sure why. Hubby said I snored and I know I didn't sleep as well. I kept having leaks and couldn't get the mask situated. Then this morning I woke up DRY, DRY, DRY! I checked and sure enough, my humidifier was dry as a bone! I forgot to fill it when I went to bed last night! So, I'm going to contribute my discomfort to that last night. I still must have gotten SOME good sleep, because I still feel good this morning!

You guys have all been a godsend...so full of information! I have learned to turn to the internet when it comes to medical issues. There is a wealth of information to be gleaned and well, quite frankly, doctors just don't tell you much about your "condition". They blurt stuff out and you have no clue what they're saying and can't make informed decisions on what little they tell you. And you sure don't know what questions to ask them! I'm glad I found you all and hope one day that I'll be an "oldie" helping the "newbies"! LOL!

There's also an S9 Escape Auto... and you don't want that one either.

Well, when I get it, I'll let you all know for sure what she's bringing me. She said it's the very newest out, and I'm assuming the Escape is NOT new.
Plus, she knows I want the data reader....so I'm pretty sure I'll be getting the right thing. Sure hope so! Is the S9 Auto the newest one out???
