use of battery pack

Camping trip: I want to use a 2.5 lb battery kit designed to power a PR System One REMstar Auto CPAP machine (no humidifier). But this may be a problem: I want to recharge the battery from DC power spirce (cigarette lighter) using an inverter during the day while traveling. Staff on-line have told me that "they have heard that recharging from DC is problematic" but they cannot be specific. Has anybody tried this and, if so, enlighten me, please!

It may be possible for me to drive a Jeep that has an AC power source 115v, 150 watt to use for recharging during traveling. Would that be a be a better option? Or is the idea of recharging on the road while actually traveling a bad idea all the way around?

Using a vehicle's DC source to drive an inverter to charge a battery is probably the LEAST efficient way you could do it; but I'm sure it's possible. It may be the only way, depending on your equipment. Impossible to say without knowing how everything is configured. Assuming both are 12v, a direct connection to the vehicle DC might be simpler.

I'd follow the ins that came from the maker of the battery pack. I have a Car jumper starter, it says you can use D/C from the auto, but it may damage the battery, due to the more power AMPS and the vehicles varying voltage range. (Making it easy to overheat and over charge the battery) By using the charger that came with it, even by using the vehicle and a inverter to run the charger, you probably have a safety factor built in. However it not a efficient way to recharge it, it doesn't matter with the vehicle running at speed, it will make more D/C. Jim

Using a vehicle as a charger isn't a form that lends it's self to being efficient.

I have a Battery Geek CPAP battery and they recommend using an inverter and the regular AC powered charger when charging the battery from 12 volts. Although it is a bit inefficient (the inverter will be about 90% efficient and the battery charger I would guess to be about 90-95% efficient), it is the safest way to charge the battery.
