Why pay a grand for an S9 when you can get an Intellipap for under 500? Is there really a $500 difference?

It's not a free market. If it were, if insurance and regulation were not involved, I'm sure patients would become customers. Under the current scheme, many patients are stuck with what their insurance will pay for. I will not get into whether they could pay $500 out of pocket. I simply do not know what each person's insurance plan looks like and where they are in their deductible/co-pay columns.

I can't speak to how the machines differ since I am new and have only used the IntelliPAP AutoAdjust w/Smartflex. However, I have had excellent therapy from this machine and my data shows that my average AHI since I began using it 3 weeks ago is 1.6. DeVilbiss is a company that's been around over 120 yrs with an excellent track record and, from what I've encountered, excellent customer service. They are highly regarded for their air compression devices on the industrial side of their company, and their healthcare side is equally well respected. Our host's website shows that the Intellipap autocpap is the best selling machine they have https://www.cpap.com/cpap-user-preference.php, and another site, Secondwindcpap, says, "We believe this device represents the best Auto CPAP machine on the market, for quality, dependability, and price." So...... I can only offer this testimony.

There's a number of good reasons why you might want the S9. It's the smallest and lightest machine in it's category. It has Climate Control with a heated hose, it has the ability to detect Central Apneas much better than most machines.

I could go on but I won't. It really depends what you're after. You could by a car for $1,000 or you could buy one for $10,000, you're likely to get more technology and more features packed into the $10,000 model than you will a $1,000 model. Also preference comes into it.

Thanks
Dave

You can also easily buy a car for $100,000 (and not one of these hand made masterpieces either). At some point it is about just extravagance. If you can get your AHI down to 1.0 or below, that's all that matters.

It seems this board favors the S9. Every forum I belong to seem to have a favorite for whatever the category of the forum.
There is nothing wrong with the Intellipap. IF you want to pay the extra to get the full data from it, that is an option. If you are happy with what the Smartcodes provide then no need for the data module. Also I do not know about other machines but the Intellipap firmware is upgradable with a laptop and simple cable. Mine does not yet have the latest, but once I get the cable and download the upgrade it will be the same as the new ones with Smartflex.
Also the Intellipap has a 3 yr warranty.
Just because alot of people here will tell you to get the S9 does NOT make it the best.
The best is what you can afford and will provide the data and therapy that works for you.

Yes, I agree with jmcanzo..... the SmartCodes are very good information and if you aren't having any issues with your therapy, it may be enough. If you are in need of more detailed information, the software will provide that. I think it is wonderful that those who have the older machine can do a firmware update and essentially have the latest model. What a great customer service provision that is!! And upgrading to the new software is inexpensive as one only needs to get the disk for a nominal price.

I am completely satisfied with my IntelliPAP..... so glad I got it and didn't spend a fortune since I was buying out of pocket.

I don't have an Intellipap Auto right now. The more I read about it the more I like it!

I think it's right up there with the more expensive models like Resmed S9 Autoset and Philips Resprionics System One Auto.

I think we also overlook the Fisher & Paykel 254 Auto machine. To me, it's another auto that has a lot of bells and whistles.

The Intellipap Auto and the Fisher & Paykel 254 Auto are certainly 2 of the machines I will seriously consider when I am in the market for a new machine. They have as good a software program as Resmed and Philips Resprionics, in my opinion and give excellent therapy.

Looks like the S9 has lost market share on cpap.com. It's way over priced no doubt about it. Removing their products from cpapauction.com will not help their image and it will not increase the sale of their products. I predict they will continue to lose market share. Someone is always inventing a better product and delivering it to the consumer at a better price.
