tried the tape and...

Post by sleepymama » Tue Aug 31, 2010 7:15 am

woken up by hubby cause of the leakage coming from the fact my mask was off! lol not sure when i took it off but it was off. it was about 3am so i just took the tape off and went back to sleep. i looked at the graph today and it doesn't really look much different. i had nightmares last night though.

new users often remove mask in sleep, I did.
simply tape mask to face so the pain will remind you to leave mask in place

Hello: Sleepymama

I think that read a thread here about similar problems with mask removal during the night and not remember doing it, and some of the suggestions made ( Silly ) as it may sound was to wear mitens to bed for a while, it is suppose to make it hard for you to be able to remove your mask during your sleep or at least wake yourself up while trying to remove your mask..
This is providing that you don't have any other issues with sinuses, pressure,or even the correct mask pillow fitting. One thing that i personally notice about the Opus mask is that it was very prone to leaks or at least it was for me, now i'm using the Swift Fx with good success and very little leakage issues,a full face mask might be another option that you could consider...

Just some thoughts and wishing you good luck with your therapy...

Phil

thanks everyone. i was wondering if maybe i took the mask off cause i couldn't breathe? last night was the first night i tried taping my mouth. it's also the first time i've taken the mask off. so far i've left it on. not sure if it's related. guess i can try other face masks. the problem i was having is that the masks make the bridge of my nose sore. so we have been trying to find one that doesn't go on the bridge which is why pillows seem great for now. might try some moleskin to see if that helps.

if your nose plugged up, I bet that is why you took it off..

put a little slit in the tape if you need to cough, it really wont leak a lot of air out of there if its a tiny slit..

if you dont take off your nose pillows when you cant breath through your nose and your mouth is taped,
you are going ot feel pretty awful in the morning..

if you have a way to unplug your nose antihistime, or nose sprays.. try that..

I use saline spray every night before I go to bed and mask up - and blow my nose really good. That has been really helpful. -Kim
