WOO HOO !! new machine is HERE, first night UPDATE!!!

Post by fireman38355 » Fri Aug 27, 2010 4:37 pm

YIIPPPEEEEEE!!!!

After a couple of weeks of dealing with the crappy insurance people, and trying to locate the machine that my doctor ordered, dealng with the DME, and not sleeping AT ALL....... my machine is here!

I got the Respironics BiPap Auto SV Advanced with integrated humidifier, and the Optilife nasal pillow system, as well as an extra nasal mask just to have as a backup or spare. (made by Resmed, not sure of model)

I have been playing with it all afternoon and it is very comfortable to use. I think I will be very happy with it.

WISH ME LUCK! Tonight will be the first night of the rest of my new life....!!!

Nothing like a new toy in the house.

Now the machine is not a toy, but you know what I mean..

Enjoy....

SLEPT LIKE A LOG! I got up twice..... once around 3am because my head was so stopped up I couldn't breathe at all through my nose.... and the other at around 6am because my dog was whining and wouldn't shut-up.

Other than those 2 brief awakenings, I went to sleep at midnight and got up for good at 11:00..... Geez! Guess I should have set an alarm! lol

When I woke up at 3 with a plugged nose, I got a small jar lid and put about a tablespoon of Vicks VapoSteam in it and placed it near the intake on the back of my ASV. It cleared those sinuses right up!

Thanks for all of your help and this forum, I hope night 2 goes just as well......

Jeff

Eleven hours on your first night!! That's fantastic! You have a lot of sleep debt to repay. Enjoy your new machine. The SVs do their job very well.

Being a firefighter your mind probably already associates a mask with safety and security so it let you sleep deeply.

Don't be surprised if this continues for a couple of weeks, including feeling really groggy in the mornings because your body really, really doesn't want to wake up. For the first time in years it is getting good rest and REM sleep and sucking it up like a sponge. It lets up after a few weeks.

Make sure you have a good pillow and mattress cover - you will not be moving in your sleep and your joints may object to this, especially your neck and lower back. If you sleep on your side, tuck a pillow between your knees to keep your hips from getting twisted and putting strain on your lower back.

I will have to try the pillow between my knees..... I was kind of stiff this morning when I rolled out of bed.

Thanks for everyone's help and suggestions..... I think I am off to a good start!

Jeff
