Getting Started Tonight!! Woot!!!!

Post by Emilia » Thu Aug 26, 2010 8:22 am

Checked out UPS tracking and my shiny, new DeVilbiss Intellipap Auto w/ Smartflex is out for delivery today! Woooohooooo!! On another thread, the DeVilbiss rep posted this info on the new Smartflex feature:
iRND stands for inspiratory rounding and eRND stands for expiratory rounding. This feature of SmartFlex is a DeVilbiss patented technology called Flow Rounding and has been featured on DeVilbiss Bilevel S devices for years. Flow Rounding allows you to customize pressure transitions into and out of inspiratory and expiratory pressure. The higher you set the number, the smoother the pressure waveform becomes.
This sounds like their 'flex or epr' may be even better than what the two major contenders have. I sure look forward to using this machine tonight..... hope it all goes smoothly.

Glad to hear it Emilia, best wishes to you.

You were on this journey before I started, and I've had my equipment 10 days already. I had a hard enough time waiting to get mine, I can't imagine waiting as long as you have. Hang in there. I've heard it said things get better...

LOL... tell me about it! What a long, circuitous road of insurance nonsense, ending with me buying my machine out of pocket anyway! Geesh..... My medical insurance isn't bad, in fact, I've never had a problem with them through illness, seeing specialists, or ever major surgery. Got to this DX, and had to use their DME middleman for the first time and it was like a surreal dimension of health care I've never encountered before! My sleep doc's office said they have dealt with them before and found them to be the worst. No alternatives are available with my HMO... so I took my machine needs into my own hands, and I have to say, I feel really good about doing that.

Thanks for your well wishes! I am glad your therapy is going well for you, Linda.

This is great news Emilia!! Hope you sleep really well tonight!

Please keep us posted. One of the reasons I did not get an Intellipap, when I was looking for a new machine, was the lack of exhalation relief.

I was impressed with what I found about the machine and the software. I am also impressed with the fact that a Rep from Devilbiss comes on this forum and explains things and gives us update imformation! No other manufacturer has done that as far as I know!

I will be very interested in how it goes with you!

All the best!!

I just got to use the smart flex last night, and it did make for a more comfortable night. I too appreciate the Devilbiss rep. explaining things.

I'm a self pay too - can't believe I had an Rx but no DME would fill it. I need to get my courage up and submit the package for our of network reimbursement. But, I know they'll fight it. Then, I'll have to threaten them w/ more sleep studies - a single sleep study will cost about 3 times as much as my intellipap w/ mask.

Michelle.... time to change your machine listing to Intellipap Auto with heated humidifier and Smartflex! So glad you found it comfortable and that your firmware upgrade was easy to do. I won't have anything to compare it to as it will be my first experience using a machine so it's good to know you found it a welcome addition to this model.

Thanks to all for your good wishes. I will post tomorrow how the night goes!

mgrunk - I hear you! I am in Ontario Canada and my prescription is uselss to me here. Providers here are only allowed to sell you a machine IF you have had a recent sleep study and/or IF the doctor writes you a new prescription. This is the case even if your machine is more than 5 years old and even if you are willing to pay the inflated price all on your own.

I have bought 4 auto machines online in the last 2 years, each for about 1/4 of what the same machine would cost here (less for the backup machines I have purchased on cpapauction.com), with my almost 8 year old prescription for a straight cpap!

There is something wrong with this picture!!!!?????

Without this forum, I would not have known I could do that!!! THANK YOU CPAPTALK.COM!

Congrats and good luck Emilia. You are so much further ahead than most of us were when first starting out. Have you got it set up yet and tried it out?

Glad you were able to do that! You have good reason to "feel really good about doing that."

Hope all goes extremely well for you, Emilia. Whether feeling better happens fast or gradually, you're gonna be a CPAP success, for sure.

I think ResMed trains their employees not to talk to end users even under torture.

Hi,

If you think about this for a moment, from a legal standpoint, nothing but bad things could happen by having a medical company talk to end users without having a MD involved. I cannot blame them for wanting to protect their company by doing a bit of CYA. If you really want something to blame, it is the legal system that we have where simply looking at someone cross-eyed can get a person sued.

I agree. Frustrating for us, but smart on the companies' part. Their real customers are the home health care equipment providers (the DMEs) anyway. Not us. Again, frustrating for us, but smart (and highly profitable) business for the manufacturers.
