events vs pressure correlation

Post by yawnny » Sat Aug 21, 2010 12:50 pm

Using an S9 autoset and Rescan software, overall my AHI has been considerably less than 1.0 but, when I look at the detailed graphs, on maybe 3 occasions over the past 5 days there are "events" which are labeled as obstructive lasting approx. 15 seconds, yet there is no corresponding huge jump in pressure at the same time. First of all, I find it hard to believe that not being able to breath for 15 seconds didn't wake me up and, secondly why didn't the pressure increase more substantially (it did seem to go from 10.06 to 10.80 or so) to try to keep my airway open?

What are your machine settings? Minimum, maximum, EPR? And what do your Summary Rejports show, for 95% and maximum Pressure? Sleeping on your back or REM sleep may increase obstructive apneas which the machine is unable to respond to quickly enough, or at all, depending on the settings.

Min = 10, Max = 15 EPR = 3. For this particular night 95% = 11.5, max = 13.0.

Thank you for the link to previous thread. From looking at the data, it seems that when the event occurred, my pressure was 10.6 and the machine waited approx 13 seconds before boosting the pressure to 10.76. Why did it wait this long? If the S9 had been set to CPAP at a constant 13 this event wouldn't even have happened, right? Thank you for your input.

Sorry, I don't know the technical details of how the S9 responds.

EPR of 3 reduces your exhale pressure by 3, so if you are comfortable at a lower EPR, you could try lowering it. Or, you could try raising your minimum. Or, you could use cpap mode.
