Night one... so far

Post by waynegs » Sat Aug 21, 2010 12:36 am

Ok. I went to bed at my normal time and things looked good. Swift on, not bothering me... So I proceed to lay there for an hour, coming close to falling asleep twice (started to have day dream type stuff).

Mask is not bothering me and breathing is fine, but I am either hot or wide awake. Going to stay up for an hour or so and try again. I know its going to work

More later today....

To be able to make so many positive statements about your treatment on night one is pretty amazing. If it's just a matter of your brain needing to accept the new sensations, that will come soon, especially since there's no big issues. Sure hope by now you are sound asleep and having sweet dreams.

Its me again. So I have this theory that I am very close to falling asleep then I have an event and snap awake due to the strange sensation of the mask and airflow.

So far, 2h 30min of usage... Very little sleep...

I will get this working!

You will never get to sleep if you keep getting out of bed to post messages. Forget the messages until the next day,,,,just relax and clear your mind. If you keep thinking about things you want to do you won't sleep.

I have a friend who is, among other things, involved in cognitive therapy and focuses on good thinking habits. When I was having severe sleep issues at the beginning of my Bi-PAP therapy, he asked me "what do you want?" I answered "I don't want to be awake all night." His response was "I didn't ask you what you didn't want. I asked you what you wanted." His point is this: Don't focus on what you don't want, what is not happening, what you hope to avoid. These are negative and won't point you in the best direction. Focus on what you want - relaxation and sleep. Don't allow yourself to drift towards the new things (CPAP, masks, air-flow) and how they are making sleep difficult. You can think about that during the day time. Instead think about relaxing, comfortable things. It really helps.

Best wishes,
Tony
