Say that again?

Post by jasper » Thu Aug 19, 2010 6:48 am

The following is from a defensive driving course offered by the New York Safety Council. What's wrong with this picture? Subtitled: Just enough knowledge to be dangerous...

“Driving and untreated sleep apnea can be a dangerous condition. Those with untreated sleep apnea run up to 15 times greater risk of traffic crashes or work-related accidents due to daytime sleepiness. The Greek word “apnea” literally means “without breath”. The brain literally fails to tell the body to breath and, deprived of oxygen, the body falls asleep. With each apnea event, the brain briefly arouses people with sleep apnea in order for them to resume breathing, but the consequences in the interim could be devastating.”

The writer of that quoted passage should offer an offensive writing course.

You're right, jasper... they sure got the why's and wherefore's wrong...

To their credit, at least they brought up the subject of "sleep apnea." Was glad to see they included the all important word "untreated" when speaking of the danger. I'd have written "combination" instead of "condition" in the first sentence, but I'm nit-picking.

Yes, I was thinking of putting (sic) after the word "breath", but I knew you'd all know it was a direct quote.
