As I have written in other posts, I am new to CPAP (less than two weeks).
I was having big problems adjusting to the Quattro mask, so I brought the mask and the machine to the CPAP technician at my hospital. I tried out the Mirage Liberty (lying on a bed with the machine running for 20 minutes) and I felt much better so I am swapping. The tech ordered a new mask from my DME yesterday, so I hope it will arrive soon.
I had tried the Liberty with the DME at my initial visit but did not like the nasal pillows. Well, after suffering some very painful nights and getting some nasty red indentations on my face and nose from the Quattro, I knew something had to be done. All of a sudden, the nasal pillows didn't seem so bad. I was pleasantly surprised I could handle it.
My outlook now is very bright! There may not be such a thing as a perfect mask, but I am learning more and more how to handle problems.
Moral to new CPAP users (and to myself): If you are having problems, get help, do not give up!

That is the core truth behind CPAP. The other core truth is that every face is different, and few faces are perfectly symmetrical. I have an entire graveyard of failed masks that I tried before I found one that worked. I tried several full face masks, a nose mask, and a hybrid before I stumbled onto the Swift LT. I initially rejected the Swift LT because it looked like something that space aliens would use in their experiments on humans.

PJ,
Hang in there. Good for you for taking the initiative and not just dumping the machine in the closet. We all are searching for the holy grail of masks. The very important lesson you have learned is keep reading, educate yourself and keep trying. The last part is keep posting. You never know when your experiences might help someone else.
