Sleeping Positions

Post by uy9p1 » Wed Nov 09, 2005 10:43 am

Hi,

I am 58 years old and sleep mostly on my stomach although during sleep I will turn over onto my back for a while before resuming my stomach position. I sleep part of the night with my head turned to the left and part of the night with my head turned to the right.

I can't see how anyone other than a person who sleeps on his/her back (or possibly his/her side) can use CPAP. Am I wrong?

Are there any stomach sleepers out there who were able to make the transition from stomach sleepers to back or side sleepers so that they could comfortably use CPAP?

I appreciate your responses.

I stomach sleep with CPAP. Not totally flat with legs both stretched out though. I pull one leg up It just takes a little fiddling with the mask occasionally...for the most part it works fine. I also sleep on my side as well...I switch around a lot.

I have only had one night on it, but last night I was able to resume sleeping on my stumach with my Swift. It is much smaller and softer than a normal mask. It doesnt allow me to completely sleep how I would without the hose, but I am able to much better get positioned than when I had my "Comfort" Gel mask.

I originally had a lot of problems with mask leaks (I'm a stomach sleeper, too). What helped (hasn't made things perfect, but helped significantly) is a PAPillow from talkaboutsleep.com. It took a little maneuvering and getting used to it, but once I did, it's cut down on leaks significantly.

By the way, Barb - I do the "one leg up" thing, too. I thought I was weird. Glad to know I'm not the only weird one.

I am 60 and have slept all my life on stomach with one leg up. So I think it is a perfectly good way to sleep (as long as your back is not bothering you). However, my DH thinks it is weird. But, What does he know????
