Midnight awakening with my machine blowing hard

Post by mwink » Mon Nov 07, 2005 9:17 pm

I have a Respironics Remstar CFLEX Auto set on APAP. Everynight that I use the Comfort Curve mask I wake up with the mask blowing air hard. If I turn the machine off and on, it is fine again. Other masks don't seem to have that problem. I have a sense that it is waking me up. Anyone have any ideas on what is causing this and how to fix it.

Most likely, it is because the machine is on auto and it is upping the pressure to compensate for your breathing, be it apneas or snoring. When I first got my APAP I had the same feeling and it goes away over time.

Good luck!

Or maybe you are having massive leaks with the Comfort Curve and the machine is responding by increasing the pressure. . .

Do you have similar results with other masks? The ResMed Activa is by far the most leak resistant, but it is big and heavy.

mwink,
I'm having the same issue.
In my case, the machine is blowing full blast because the mask is leaking so much. I think I'm pulling my mask off my face during the night.

I'm sure that the autopap blows full force when it gets no resistance. Mine's a Resmed and has a "leak alarm" on it that beeps. I can barely hear it beeping with the hose blowing so loudly and with my floor fan running for white noise, but it does beep.

Hang in there!
