Aussie Newbie S9 Autoset

Post by Aussie_Steve » Wed Jun 09, 2010 6:28 pm

Hi All

I am new to the sleep apnea problems well just been diagnosed a few months ago and have only been hooked up the Resmed S9 autoset for 7 weeks or so, but I guess I have been suffering with sleep apnea for many yrs and its only gotten to the point where I have had to do something about it in the last few years.

Looking at the report from the good Doc at the Sleep Lab and in amongst all the words it reads that I have at least moderately severe sleep apnea and my oxygen desat got down to 83% at one point in the night.

I have been struggling with the S9 Autoset on a number of night it has woken me with it try to blow my eyeballs out of my head and I was struggling to breath as the pressure was so high bit like trying to breathe through your nose with your head out the window of a fast moving car. ... errr not that I do that sort of thing

but other than that it’s been pretty good, still getting use to the machine, I am a lot better with the machine than without it that for sure

Here are a couple of scans from the detail reports from the data card, this is a typical night’s sleep I think some nights are better some are worse.

I have very little idea what all the traces mean but I am guessing it’s a bad thing if the flow trace has flat lines in it

enjoy

Correct... a flat or narrow flow line indicates an apnea or hypopnea--these should appear slightly before the events in the Event graph. Your pictures are missing the leak graphs (probably off screen), but that may be important given the pressure issue you are indicating--if your leak rate is high, the machine will increase air flow to try to maintain the target pressure and you may experience that as the discomfort you describe.

Hi jmelby

Yes I have had leak issues but its usually through the mouth ... I had an operation sometime ago and they removed most of my soft pallet many many years ago .. so things dont seal real well now days as I have been finding out.
no problem tho I have started to use one of those national geographic Buff's scarf around the top of my head to under my chin which is holding my mouth shut nicely at night

here is a link for the Buff's if you are wondering what they are

http://www.buff.com.au/home/

cheaper than a chin strap from the CPAP suppliers over here.

Here is the leak trace for that night

So only a leak at the start of the night

cheers
Aussie
