Discovered a minor setting issue on Autoset Spirit

Post by dsm » Sat Oct 29, 2005 4:50 pm

Had been wondering why I couldn't set the autostart feature on - it just kept reverting to off.

Then it dawned that maybe it was the mask setting so I went there - reset the mast from f/f to std & bingo the autostart feature worked.

Cheers

xPAP and Quattro std mask (plus a pad-a-cheek anti-leak strap)

You are completely and totally correct. ResMed was thinking about their full face mask that has a large safety valve making breathing room air very easy when power goes off for example. Since the valve is open when you first put on the mask the machine will have very little feedback to start. All the other masks setting works on auto start just fine. I almost never use the standard mask setting. I find that the auto start feature a little trigger happy on my Spirit as compare to my old RemStar which I feel takes forever to start

Now I have another question. What mask do I set the machine for since I am using the Hans Rudolph. Here lately my L/S is going through the roof.

I mean really high and the mask is not leaking.

In your ResMed manual near the end of the English part there should be graph that shows all the leaks curves for all the ResMed masks. On your instructions for the Hans Rudolph there also should be a graph for that mask as well. Find the ResMed mask curves that best match the Hans Rudolph mask and set the machine according. The manufacture of the mask may also have a idea what setting may work the best. Is important that you select the right setting mask setting not only for the leak reporting but also the for Flow Limitation detection. The mask vent and even the humidifier can distort the return wave or "flattening" as ResMed calls it to determine how much flattening can occurred before the machine will increase the pressure. My favorite mask is the dreamfit by far and the mask setting of standard which I thought was correct left me grasping for breath in the middle of the night. By thinking outside of the box a little I wrote a diary of how I response to the other mask setting and I found a setting on my Spirit that works best for the Dreamfit. It took my treatment to a whole new level. I call it the "Dalai Lama" effect.

Thanks. I used the Standard setting for the mask last night and the L/S was 0.42 L/S. I hope this isn't to bad.

I will check it out the masks to see which one is the best.
