Which Machine ?
Which Machine ?
My doctor ordered the resmed S8 Elite II, but I was looking at different machines and I like the S8 Auto Set II. Which machine would be the best, I like the features of the auto set in case I need it in the future?
Re: Which Machine ?
If at all possible go w/the S8 AutoSet II. The S8 Elite II is a great device, but it is ONLY a fully data capable straight CPAP whereas the S8 AutoSet II is not only a fully data capable auto PAP, it can be used in straight CPAP mode as well. If you are in the USA both the AutoSet and the Elite are HCPCS (insurance) code e0601.

I agree the Autoset has more features and capabilities, although that doesn't necessarily make it a better choice for you.
But if your doctor specified the Elite, that's what they must dispense. If you want something different, try to talk your doctor into a "CPAP of patient's choice" prescription.

Re: Which Machine ?
Obviously different doctors are going to have different reactions to patients requests but I found that when it was time for the selection of my xpap machine being as well educated as possible about the different machines helped with 'their' final decision. In fact when they called about setting up the DME appointment I wasn't shy about telling them what machine I would like and why, in my case they offered no resistance. If you haven't picked up the machine yet I would think you could still plead your case to the doctor to change the prescription if your choice of machines fits your therapy needs. I had tried a straight CPAP machine some 5-6 years back and couldn't ever get used to exhaling against the pressure and ended up quitting the therapy. Since that time the xpap machines have become very popular and it (S8 Autoset II) has thus far fit my therapy needs very well
