I don't have any idea if further research will support the value of these exercises, but there is something plausible about the idea that you can improve the tone of muscles that hold the airway open, and that this could reduce events. It struck me that the focus of study shouldn't necessarily be a substitute for CPAP. Something like this could complement CPAP if it helps someone who never gets his AHI as low as he would like, or if it lets someone get away with a lower pressure than they needed before. Near the end of the article was mention that the biggest effect was during REM sleep, which is when it's needed most. I think it's worthwhile keeping an eye on this line of inquiry.
