High altitude periodic breathing.
High altitude periodic breathing.
From my understanding HAPB is basically a form of central apneas. I visited Colorado recently and had an awful time sleeping. I felt like I was sufficating all night long. I live at sea level and the area I was in is about 7,000 ft above sea level. I called my Doctor for advice because I am going back out to the same area. Anyone have experience with High altitude periodic breathing?

Re: High altitude periodic breathing.
Its a fairly common problem, and of course sleep-aids, alcohol can make it much worse. Diamox as a prophylactic treatment prior to reaching high elevation is very effective for most people and has few side-effects. I am an administrator at EpicSki.com, and we have a very good article by a Denver physician who is well versed in this problem posted on our site.
