Hello,
I've been using the Respironics System One apap since January, but complained to my doctor today that one of my (many) problems adjusting to cpap therapy is sometimes I feel too tired to exhale. My doctor is prescribing a BPAP machine for me to try. Is this a mistake? Does the Encore 2.2 software work for both if I got the same brand? Any opinion on the best BPAP would be appreciated before I see the DME. I wonder if they'd let me just borrow a machine? For the past six weeks, (since finding cpaptalk) I've been making some progress (I've been compliant!) and hate to rock the boat. I got a new mask last week and the nasal pillows are helping my nasal congestion, surprisingly! YAY! But I'm having to fix new problems the mask change created. As someone else wisely said on here, "my brain doesn't like change."
Thank you all very much!
Which BPAP to ask for?
Re: Which BPAP to ask for?
Best case scenario would be for you to be allowed to try both major-brand autobilevels to see which one seemed to you to work best for you.Hope1952 wrote:Hello,

I am partial to ResMed machines (not so much the company), but I found I was able to get good therapy with a Respironics autobilevel too. So, see if you can try both brands' latest machines.

Re: Which BPAP to ask for?
Thanks, Jeff. I'll ask for those two specifically.
Re: Which BPAP to ask for?
Resmed hasn't released an S9 bi-level yet altho our local Resmed Rep says they will have an S9 VPAP Auto out in a few months, definitely before the end of the year.
I have loved my Resmed VPAP Auto (S8 body) but was having some difficulty auto titrating so asked to try a loaner new PR SystemOne BPAP Auto w/Bi-Flex. We seem to be getting close to the pressure and comfort settings I need (I have COPD). EncorePro 2.2 will do very well w/the previous to S1 series of Respironics devices and was developed specifically for the S1s so you will not have a problem there. Personally I HATE EncorePro 2.2 and REALLY miss my ResScan 3.10 and previous versions. I consider ResScan MUCH the better software.
I had just thought that perhaps the PR method of Pressure Support might make the auto titrating easier for me to grasp than the Resmed method of Pressure Support as the PR method allows more "freedom" of pressures than Resmed's to my way of thinking and as I understand them. I'm pretty much auto titrating on my own given the asinine 3 months and 6 months delays in consultations w/a sleep "specialist". After better than 3 years of PAP compliance such delays in monitoring and suggesting pressure changes is absolutely ...... ASSININE!!!!

Re: Which BPAP to ask for?
That will be good to know what the PR1 BIPAP users think about the machine. Let us know.

Re: Which BPAP to ask for?
Even when they do, my preference in the ResMed would be the S8 II VPAP Auto 25. That's what I was thinking when I said "latest."Slinky wrote:Resmed hasn't released an S9 bi-level yet . . .
