Using the site question...

Post by patdart » Sat May 15, 2010 1:20 pm

Can anyone tell me if there is a page that will tell me what all the icons, etc. mean and how to utilize this site better than I am doing?

The ones on the opening page...circles with red or black type on them, some rolling, some not, etc. How do I know what those various things mean?

I took me a bit to figure it out too. If you go all the way to the bottom of the home page there is an icon glossary down there that will help a little.

Also, you mentioned doing the quotes. If you want to quote something in a thread just click on the "quote" icon in the post that you want to quote. It will be nest to the posters name.

Now this one took me some trial and error to figure out.
If you want to quote multiple people in the thread to answer them all in one post then at the bottom of the page click on post reply like normal and then when you box pops up to type you post scroll down and you will see all the previous posts below that box. Each post will have a quote icon and you can click that icon in each post your want to quote and it will automatically put the quote in the box.

Once you have the quotes in the box you can edit them to remove anything you don't need to quote and just leave the information you are responding to.

I hope I explained without causing more confusion. I'm a lot better at showing how to do something then I am at telling.

Thank you so much for this information. I really think it should be posted somewhere for people who know even less than I do who come trying to find help. I've used message boards before but this one is more sophisticated than any I've ever used and it is wonderful, but a tad confusing!

if the OP in a thread has an avatar in the far left, you look for a little box by the title of the thread - if the box is there you haven't read the latest version of the thread - if it is gone, you have

Thanks to both of you, I'm figuring it out...and have to admit to a 'DUH' feeling! Maybe I need more restful sleep?

it isn't the easiest board to figure out and I have my own gripes about it that admin doesn't want to address

my gripe has to do with being able to use accessibility options with high contrast display - oh well - I know where the buttons are now but this forum set up is not compatible with that

Don't feel bad, in my sleep deprived state it took me a bit to figure it out as well. Especially the method for quoting more then one person in a post. I kept making multiple posts to respond to different people.

Have you ever tried ZoomText? You can do all sorts of fantastic things with it including setting to to high contrast or increasing the font as big as you need it to go. I'm not using it right now but I make good use of the crtl + to make the font grow.
