New mask - ComfortLite 2

Post by Maple Leaf » Tue May 11, 2010 4:45 pm

Finally arrived after 3 weeks of anxiously waiting, ordered from Cpap.com. After messing with it last night and a good part of to0day, the nasal pillows are now placed firmly in the trash can. Inserting glass corks up my nose just didn't cut it along with the atrocious leaks... still recovering from the wind-burn.
The head gear is comfortable though. Too bad it is truly light as summer is here and I'm looking for a boat anchor. Oh ya, the miniature nasal mask bonus add-on should make a wonder play toy for children...... the search continues.

Rick

I'm sorry that it didn't go well for you, Rick. I wore that mask during my titration study, and I was miserable because it just didn't work for me! Other people love it. We're all different.

If the nasal pillows can be retrieved from the trash can , you may want to give it a try another time in the future. Maybe a different way of adjusting the straps would help? You could try a tiny dab of Lansinoh lanolin (found in the baby supplies/nursing mother aisle) around the outside of your nares to see if the pillows seat better. You could see if one of these "lab rat fixes" may help: viewtopic.php?t=15104. Also, are you sure that you had the proper size of nasal pillows? That can make a huge difference.

I have tried on probably 15 masks. Only a few have worked for me. One of my favorite nasal pillows masks is the Fisher & Paykel Opus 360. But it took me a while to figure out how to adjust it properly. I had tried it two nights and was 100% ready to give up on it. I put it away for a few weeks and decided to try it again, and voila! I also really like the AEIOMed Headrest nasal pillows mask. The only (slight) drawback for me with that one is that it's a bit noisy when I breathe. But it vents upward, out of the way, which I love. And it's comfortable and good for side-sleeping. Many people seem to like the new Swift FX, although I haven't tried it myself.

Anyway, I hope you find a mask that works well for you. If you hadn't mentioned that you put the nasal pillows in the trash can, I would suggest that you post a thread and offer to trade masks with someone. It can be easily disinfected, so maybe someone would be game for that arrangement?

Hi Dream On,

Yes, I kinda went ballistic and the pillows did end up in the trash can. I tried both pillows and every adjustment possible but no matter what I did, the angle could not be achieved to place the pillows properly. I'm thinking of giving the Headrest a try. Yes, I know, I reacted hastily when I gave up on the mask. lesson learned.

I can understand how you felt. Masks can be so aggravating, especially when we're trying to adjust when we're tired!

I have started a mask graveyard here. But I can't bear to part with any of the "rejects" yet. I plan to give each a try again sometime in the future. I find that some nights I just don't have the patience to deal with it. In the case of the Opus 360, all it needed to work for me was tightening of the overhead strap and everything was fine after that.

The Headrest headgear seems to be a bit large for me. I must have a relatively small head. But I wear it over my PAPCap Plus chin strap, which has some Velcro exposed in the back, and that grabs the headgear and keeps the whole thing in place just fine. Others modify their headgear or it works as-is for them. If you try the Headrest and don't like it, please don't toss it in the trash can!

Good luck in your quest for the Perfect Mask!

Hey Rick , are you in vancouver.. if you want come by one of our office's and you could try some on some masks and get an idea if they are close . Our policy is pay for it and you can try it for a week. Bring it back and exchange it if it is garbage bin worthy... that mask is a bit tricky.. didn't fit many with success. It does look good if you are a Klingon.

Hi Steve, I'm in Kamloops otherwise I would stop by. I have checked out your pricing and it is very reasonable...and much better than the local DME here in Kamloops. I will definitely stop in on my next trip down to the coast.

Regards,
Rick

Thanks everyone for the quality answers!
My DME for 9 years provided terrible service. A good supplier is an incredible help.
Thanks to a poster here I've found one in my town. I've slept soundly ever since I bought a mask.

My experience--devil's in the details. A little thing makes a world of difference. For instance, I bought a cpap pillow at the same time. Now my mask doesn't get knocked off if I roll on my side.
