Good Morning to all!!
I have had an ongoing problem with aerophagia since I started cpap over 2 yrs. ago. I have lowered my pressure from the titrated 12cm to 10cm and was still having uncomfortable "gas". So on Saturday night I lowered the pressure to 9.8 just to see what would happen and if I would feel less "gassy". I was amazed at the morning stats I got with this low pressure.
Saturday night my stats were : Pressure: 9.8, leak: .26, AHI: 0.9, AI: 0.1, HI: 0.8. During the day I did feel somewhat less gassy but not remarkably so. I did however feel less tired and overall pretty darn good. I did wake up a few times during the night but went back to sleep.
Last night my stats were: Pressure:9.9, Leak: .28, AHI: 0.6, AI: 0.0, HI: 0.6. So far this morning I feel very ragged out probably because I had trouble falling asleep and woke up several times during the night and on one waking it took a while to fall back to sleep. I woke with some gas but not so much that I feel like a helium balloon!!
My question I guess is this: How could my stats be this good with a pressure that is SOOOO much lower than my titrated pressure?? And is it possible that meds I was taking at the time of my titration could have resulted in the 12cm pressure they arrived at? Is it possible that I might get better results with a significantly lower pressure than what I have been using? I was taking Prozac, and Xanax at the time- not very high doses of either medication, in fact pretty low doses. Also, is the pressure of 9.8 so low that it is making me more tired even though my stats are great, and is the low pressure the cause of the wakings at night?? I know these are a lot of questions and it is hard to determine what exactly is going on til I use the 9.8 pressure for a few more nights. If anyone has any insight please let me know. I am so fed up with trying to figure out how to get a good nights sleep and not feel like the Goodyear Blimp in the process!! BTW- I FINALLY have a date scheduled for an endoscopy for my hiatal hernia-the doctor had been putting me off for almost a year but I was due for a colonoscopy and insisted that he do the endo at the same time! Hopefully that may help give me some answers concerning the reflux and possibly the aerophagia. Thanks- GG

GG,
Your numbers look pretty great at that pressure....I would give it a couple more nights and see where she goes. Do you have the software...so we can all see a graph of your progress?

Are you using cpap mode? Have you tried apap to self-titrate? I found that using EPR helps with aerophagia. Also Gas X.
It may be that your pressure needs have changed since your titration. And your Sat night results (data and how you felt) indicates that the lower pressure is effective for you.
As for last night, it could be other factors, and not the lower pressure. Since the lower pressure resulted in no AI, that shows that it's effective in treating you. Your leaks were a little higher, did that disturb you?
Perhaps there are other things...maybe not related to your cpap that caused your restless sleep. Are you doing the usual things for your reflux...not eating 2-3 hours before bed, sleeping on your left side, elevating the head of the bed?
When my cpap is working well, but I'm still not sleeping well, then I look to my lifestyle or sleep hygiene. It might take you a few nights and some analysis to figure it out.

Don't have the software at this point, wish I did. I know it would help with some of my questions and give me a better picture of my therapy but after having been laid off since Jan. I do not have the extra cash to sink into anything that comes with a hefty price tag. Just having the colonoscopy and endo will stretch the budget but it is something that must be done. Thanks-GG
