Did you install Chinese from 2factors?

Post by Born Tired » Tue Oct 25, 2005 11:21 am

Just wanted to make sure this is what I must do. I went to order the card reader from 2factors. Had to "join" with a user name and password. They sent an email that I must install a Chinese program. Is this what you did? I just hadn't heard anyone say anything about it, and it's always a bit scarey to install things from the internet.
Thanks,
Esther

Nope..don't install anything...email sales@2factors.com and ask them why you received this email from them.

I was afraid you were going to say that. When the little box that instructed me to install came up, I just figured that must be what everybody else had to do so I clicked OK. Then I started thinking about it and decided I'd better ask--a bit late, huh? I've probably got some horrible virus running rampant. I don't feel so well.
Did you have to do a "membership" thing with user name and password?
My husband said "I don't want to send my credit card number to China."
Esther
Can anybody else that ordered from them give any input?
I have just emailed 2factors regarding this.

Born Tired, yes, I had to register with a name and password to use 2factors site and order from them. I don't remember it asking me to download anything. It might have; but if it did, I don't recall doing that.

I really don't think you have to worry about 2factors. They seem ok to me. Famous last words, huh? lol

I bought from them with no problem. Would not hesitate to do so again.

Born Tired Esther, yes I did register on 2factors' site and ordered from them with no problem. Paid the $6 postage, and it arrived Seattle in less than a week.

No, I saw no request to download anything Chinese! Follow Biggziff''s advice and email 2factors to report that to them.

I paid via Paypal. 2factors acknowledged the order and gave a tracking number. Good followup. I would order from them again.

I now have the card reader working just fine, with Encore Pro up and running.

I found the 2factors website to be very confusing to navigate. Don't forget to "add" the shipping to your order in order to meet the $30 minimum. It took me forever to figure it out, but luckily all you need to do is order once and you're set.

Also, it's not very friendly to Firefox; better stick with IE or you'll miss the pop-up alerts.

Still waiting to get my card reader and software and I'm curious to see how I'm doing with all this.

Before you do anything, make sure your antivirus is updated and run a full scan. Then download adaware and update it then run it as well. Just to be sure that you don't have anything running on there that shouldn't be. What you may have loaded was another character set (Chinese/Korean, etc) and you're probably OK...

I would use a credit card with no problems. I buy stuff from HK and China all the time!

biggziff,
They did say it was Chinese characters. Do you think I should run the antivius anyway? I haven't noticed any problems since I did it earlier today. Haven't heard back in response to my email asking why I would have received that.
Thanks,
Esther

Well..it never hurts to run a scan, but I'm betting that you're fine....it just wanted to load a new character set.
