Nose closes off at night

Post by SleepyGuy » Fri Jan 07, 2005 2:02 pm

I often wake after two or three hours of sleep to find my nose has closed off internally. I usually then go back to sleep without the mask for a while. Breathe-right strips help, but don't solve the problem.

It took me a while to figure out that pressure from my pillow on my cheek a few inches from my nose was putting pressure on my nose and causing it to close off. I'm thinking of taking a large rubber band with band-aids on the ends to stick to my cheeks and pull them back.

Has anyone heard of any devices that can pull back your cheeks and keep your nose open?

No,I haven't heard of anything for that, gee,we sure do have our problems, don't we.
I have bandaids on my face to alleviate marks.
I wake up after about 4 hours and am ready to get up and pull the mask off.I hope I can get more sleep.

Hello Marie

What you discribe sounds like nasal congestion to me, I get the same problems every so often myself. I use a anti congestive spray to control the swelling in my tubinates, that where I get the congestion most of the time. I had operation to allivate the constant blocking of my nasal passage, 1st time on cpap my congested air passages too made it hard for me to breathe at night.

That operation opened my airways and made it easier to breath, if I got block all I had to do is use decongestant spray to open up my airways and reduce the swollen tubinates or airways. It made it easier to use CPAP thearpy and tolerate the nasal mask that sat on my snoz[nose] .

The operation was last opinon that had, as I had enlarged tubinates and deformed airways that finding in my nose and airways warrented the operation at the ENT hopital to take place. Now after a few years my nose is alot clearer then it was before the operation. Plus it madec pap treament more comfortable .at last!
Been on CPAP for a while.....I had moderate apenoa

Thanks. I just found that there is a new procedure using radio waves to shrink the turbinates. I posted a message in a new thread here:

(I hope this link works.) Did you get this procedure or did you have actual surgery where they cut away tissue? The new procedure apparently is faster, easier, and has a lot less problems.
