Been a While. Hi everyone. New masks anyone?

Post by Linda3032 » Fri Mar 26, 2010 5:06 pm

Boy, it's been forever since I've posted; we've had alot going on in our household this past year. Both my husband and I have had some serious illnesses with operations, but all seems to be okay now (knock wood).

One thing we are doing is selling our wonderful home in rural Arkansas and moving back to Georgia (Gainesville to be exact). I saw the recent post regarding a HoseHead get-together and wished I could attend -- but will have to catch you next year. We are moving to Georgia to be close to our son and grandson; partly because we miss them, but also because we need to be closer to adequate medical facilities. It's pretty scary to be so isolated in an emergency.

Anyway, I'm sorting and packing for the move, and came across several new masks that I got but never used.

I have a Swift Lt complete, with the Large and Small pillows unused. I tried the medium pillows on, but never wore the mask to bed.

I also have a complete Bravo mask, unused. However, the large and the medium pillows were sniped in two.

Lastly, I have qty 5 size Large Aeiomed Headrest pillows; still sealed in their bags.

If anyone is interested in any of these items, please PM (email) me. And, if I'm stepping on anyone's toes here, please have the administrators delete this message. At that point, I'll give the masks to goodwill or list on ebay.

Hopefully, once I get moved, I can post often again. I've miss everyone so much and enjoy reading the posts from my old hosehead friends.

Linda

What a pleasant surprise! Sorry to hear of you and your hubby's health issues, but glad they've settled down. When you get a chance, I'm interested in your post surgery experience - did you use your cpap or not?

Welcome back - hope you're in Georgia near family and facilities with the least amount of hassle possible.

Kathy

Hi again everyone -- y'all give me that old warm and fuzzy feeling.

I just had a small operation for "female things", and yes, I did use my cpap at the hospital (only there one night). But I didn't use it during the operation itself.

My husband who is extremely physically fit (a true Marine, even if he is retired), developed Hydrocephalus (water on the brain, which is really spinal fluid). You normally only see in in newborn babies -- but can also develop in us old folks. The symptoms are very similar to alzheimers. In fact the neurosurgeon said there are many people in rest homes who probably have hydrocephalus instead of dementia or alzheimers.

My husband was blacking out, and even passed out a couple of times, also he was losing his memory. A CT of the brain clearly showed very enlarged ventricles which store spinal fluid within the brain. It also showed a blocked channel leading from the brain to the spinal column.

So he had brain surgery (which only took an hour to do), and had a shunt/valve put in his head attached to small tubes that drain into his abdomen. The valve opens up and drains excess fluid when excess fluid builds up.

It all sounds far more complicated then it is, after the fact. But, the whole thing was pretty scary and really brought to light how important it is to live closer to proper medical facilities. Thus the need to move, etc, etc, etc.

Anyway, wonderful seeing you all again. And I'll try to not be a stranger.
