Car choices for CPAP?

Post by estado » Sat Mar 13, 2010 10:24 pm

Gettin' ready to set the clocks forward,- don't we feel that way 'EVERY' morning? Anyhow...I'm wonder what kind of cars people like with the secondary purpose of catching a few winks?

I'd like something I could lie down in (5'10") and maybe has power outlets? This could save me a hotel cost once in a while, or I could actually 'pull over if you're feeling tired' like the rest of the people.

Hmmmm, never listed that as criteria to consider before buying a car, but I almost never travel in one. Bet that would befuddle a car salesman to hear "accomodates powering a cpap and sleeps comfortably". Good luck in your choice.

I REALLY don't think it's a good idea to drive while sleeping - even equipped with CPAP. I hear it's quite dangerous even worse than driving while on a cellphone, and we all know how awful that is.

How bout a 30ft RV ? I have one that has several 12v plugs. One I had to have installed but there were 6 that were accessible but needed an extension cord for the Cpap.

I have a Honda Element. The seats fold into a lumpy bed and there is a privacy curtain accessory--I've used it a couple times to sleep at road stops when road-tripping.

But I wouldn't try running the CPAP off the car battery. I'd recommend using a dedicated battery for that.

Our Mercury Mariner has a 110V outlet (i.e. a regular outlet like you'd find in the wall). I've only used it when my husband was driving; if I were driving by myself and needed to pull over, I'd use the portable CPAP battery instead of the car's. Although since I have a hybrid, it would be less of a problem if I ran down the battery, since it has 2. I think.

i use a freightliner. comes with 2 beds, fridge, room for a tv, and all the power you need for your cpap, just supply the inverter. sleep in it almost every night and never need the hotel

I suppose I could sleep in my Ford Focus if I had to. I put an Optima Red Top AGM starting/deep cycle battery in it and there is a power outlet in the dash which would power my CPAP just fine.
