Surly, congratulations!

You said that your Tyco machine was an "automatic" breathing machine. That probably means that it's the model 420e, which has a great following here. That one's a VERY good machine. It is intended to work for the vast majority of patients right out of the box. It is designed to automatically adjust air pressure from anywhere between 4 cm and 20 cm to match your needs. However, many patients feel the need to adjust the automatic pressure range so that it does not go as low as 4 cm. Those patients just feel more comfortable with a little more air pressure at all times. So they might adjust that range so that it will automatically deliver pressures anywhere between 6 cm and 20 cm instead.

You will need to get used to the sensation of having a mask on your face and air pressure constantly introduced into your airway. It may seem a little uncomfortable at first. We have all gone through that same experience, and we have become accustomed to that feeling of air pressure in our own airway at night.

Good luck!
