Surgery Cancelled for 10 days or so.

Post by Titrator » Wed Oct 12, 2005 12:33 pm

Hi Folks,

I made it onto the table and was put under to find out that I have a sore throat and could not be intibated. So, they woke me up and sent me home with an antibiotic. I am trying to reschedule as soon as possible.

Kinda bummed, but I know that I will have the surgery one day. lol. The day of fasting was brutal, but I am glad the doctors air o the side of caution instead of trying to pull this off with more problems.

Thanks you all for the moral support leading up to this. I will need you all again soon. lol

Ted

Aw, maaaannnnn, that sucks! (As opposed to APAP/CPAP which blows! LOL)

Sorry to hear about the delay, Ted. It must be really nerve-wracking.

My sister-in-law had the surgery done about a year ago and has lost an incredible amount of weight. She says she has more energy and her knees feel much better. One thing to keep in mind is that you may need some skin reduction surgery done after you've taken off all you want/need to take off. There is often a bunch of excess skin from where you "shrink".

Take care and take your medicine! We're all pulling for you.

This therapy WORKS!!!

Ted,

I'm so sorry you had to mentally and physically do all the prep to be sent home, but much better to be safe than sorry. I truly believe all things happen for a reason; and although sometimes we're not let in on what the reason is, it exists.

So you had a good flushing of your system yesterday and you know what you're in for next time. Have to pull something positive out of the negative, I always say. Glad they were smart enough to postpone the surgery till you're completely healthy. Smart move.

Ted,

Snatched from the brink of success! Darn!!!

I'm curious...do they intubate because of your apnea or is that a normal procedure for surgery. I don't recall being intubated for the couple of surgeries that I've had, but I was not diagnosed with OSA at that time either... nor was I awake to witness the intubation.

We'll all save our prayers for later. LOL

"do over!"
Sincerely,

Hi Wader,

Intibation is standard for all surgery where they put you under. You weren't awake when they put it in and only semi awake when they took it out, so you just dont remember.. OSA doesn't seem to play into this factor as long as you are being monitored correctly.

If you have respirtory issues, they will hook you up to your cpap, but they dont want to blow out the staples in your new stomach. They want you to wait 4 days, even though it isn't good for you to go without, it is worse to bleed out due to blown out staple.

Less of two evils.

Ted

Hi Ted,
I wasn't here to react to your first message and wish you luck.

How disappointing the op's postponed - but it's good to know they're careful - and lucky the could see the infection (imagine if it had appeared the day after the surgery!)

Good luck!
O.

Ted.
I'll certainly be keeping you in my thoughts & prayers! Image
As you stated though it's better that they err on the side of caution rather than proceeding and perhaps causing you serious complications. Keep us posted and may God bless you and guide the ones caring for you. Image
