Somnotech Mask Review Part II

Post by fnorette » Fri Oct 14, 2005 2:02 pm

Based on th's review of the Somnotech SomnoPlus mask I got a small size with the regular head straps (not the one shown on cpap.com with the chin strap).

All in all I concur with everything th mentioned viewtopic.php?t=4753&highlight=somnoplus. It has become my one and only mask (from a closet full of rejects).

Positives important to me are:
  • Rotating elbow - very little interference with main hose when turning over.
    Extremely quiet - as advertised!
Virtually no leaks when sleeping on sides.
Works with any pillow ... Pap Pillow, down, memory foam, and buckwheat hull.
Straps can be very loose (similar to Activa ... but Activa leaked in my case because it was too large.
    Small, lightweight

Negatives:
  • As th mentioned, snaps for attaching mask rather than velcro.
Leaks develop when I sleep on my back and do not reroute the main hose to come from down below the mask as opposed to looped from above. I believe this is because the mask is so small and light that the weight of the hose shifts it.
Am still working with the Aura to get it right, but the Somnotech fit and worked right out of the box ... er, bag.

fnorette,

I agree with everything you said! After rotating through countless masks, I find this one to be a winner. It is now my favorite, and I have no problems with leaks like you are having.

I am a side sleeper and i have not found another interface that performs as well as this one.
