Peter, sounds like an Pulse/Oxygen device, which registers oxygen drops in system. If you are dropping below 90 it is an indication that you have some type of problem. SA could be one of many causes. I wouldn't jump to quickly at SA as the cause. The specialist will probably give you some breathing tests and go from there. If he orders a sleep study then you may indeed have SA.

There is a simple test at http://www.sleepapnea.org/resources/brochure.html with about five questions. Take it.

Basic info on SA is at
http://www.sleepapnea.org/resources/pubs/evaluated.html

I'm guessing your pulmonologist will be ordering a sleep study as a followup due to your pulse oximetry results.

Here's a good video. Click on:

From what you posted I think everyone (inc. your doctor) would agree that your most likely diagnosis is sleep apnea. But a definitive diagnosis requires a sleep study. As noted above, the pulmonologist is almost certainly going to send you to a sleep lab for this overnight study.

In the meantime, hang out hear, read all you can, ask any and every question that you come up with and, above all, relax. You're among friends here who have "been there, done that".

Help is coming, and if we're right you'll be getting xPAP ... and it works to treat apnea.
