Congratulations!!! Let us know how it goes. Remember, expect nothing so you can't be disappointed. That way if it turns out great, you will be pleasantly surprised. If you were anything like me, you will have some trouble falling asleep because of the excitement of it all.

Best of luck!

1st night! - allergy perhaps?

Post by sleepyred » Fri Oct 07, 2005 5:05 am

Well, I used my cpap for the 1st night! My hubby slept like a log which is unusual! I have the activa mask and could sleep very well on my side! I only broke the seal when I slept on my back (is that strange?) which woke me up.

I also am beginning to break out on the bridge of my nose - and had bags under my eyes (but I slept very well). Could I be having a reaction to the silicone?

Overall - I slept wonderfully!

And to Sleepless on LI - I was so excited I did have touble falling asleep - thanks for your thoughtful post!

Sleepy,

"Overall, I slept wonderfully" is a great start. I will occasionally wake up with swollen bags under my eyes, too. Don't know why. Is the part of your nose that is bothering you perhaps the start of a pressure sore already? You are aware that the Activa straps are supposed to be loose to have it work correctly? Maybe they were too tight. Also, if you try to lay on your back before you fall asleep, you can make sure the adjustment is right and won't leak, sort of head it off as the pass, so to speak.

All in all, if you felt you slept well, that is a home run on night 1 as far as I'm concerned. I'm so happy for you!

Thanks Lori - I adjusted as you suggested and I slept even better! Funny thing, we always though my husband had the sleep issue, but as I am correcting mine, he is sleeping so much better! In fact, he said he slept better last night than he had in months! Go figure! He's the one that snores (but not dx with sleep apnea) and is overweight and we always thought it was "his problem"!

I'm so glad your night was better and that my suggestion helped. I have to say, now since I am not in competition with my husband anymore as to who snores the loudest (I think I was winning, anyway), his is pretty annoying. I don't always wake up from it, but on those times when I wake up during the night, which is like every two hours usually, if he's snoring, it's really tough to fall back to sleep. And I used to be able to call his name out and he'd awaken for a second and stop. I can't do that anymore unless I want to lose pressure in my mask, so I have to kick him or pull his pillow. And his reactions sometimes scare me so that I get this adrenaline rush that makes me wake up even more...I wish he'd go for a sleep study. But he's so thin, doesn't have BP problems or any energy level lacking, so he swears he's just congested. Last famous words, right? King of Denial.
