Actually now I'm pretty sure now that my machine is trying to snuff me out. I woke up last night and the LED lights were still on, but no air was flowing. I pushed the on/off button and it turned off, indicating it had been "on" and I had NOT turned it off in my sleep. I woke up another time and no air was flowing, but I exhaled and it started. The machine's "auto off" setting is set to off. The latter incident I can't explain easily, but the first one seems to me to be evidence that something is wrong with this machine.
SleepingUgly wrote:I was taking off my nasal pillows initially, without any memory for having done so. At some point I stopped. After I got my full face mask, the Quattro, a stranger thing occurred. I would wake up with the machine off and the mask on, which is the worst of all possible scenarios! Here I'm getting sores on my nose in the service of cpap therapy, and there's no therapy! I wasn't sure if I was doing it or if there was something wrong with my machine.

So I did an experiment and started taping a dixie cup to the off/on button. But I had to be able to access it from the remote side by lifting that edge so I could turn it off and on due to pressure and when I got up. So that didn't resolve any ambiguity about who was responsible for this, me or the machine. So then I started stacking things on the cup like a book (kind of like the Cat in the Hat...). My little research study was put on hold by a nose welt that kept me off cpap for awhile. Now I'm trying again and we'll see.

Oddly, I felt pretty good following some of those nights where I maybe only slept with the CPAP on for 3-4 hours (sometimes better than when I slept with it all night). I started to entertain the possibility that maybe all I need is a mask, any mask, (and a little carbon dioxide...?!) to feel better. No pressure needed! I'm going to test this hypothesis by using other masks with no therapy. Tonight I'll wear a Storm Trooper full face mask. Tomorrow night a clown mask.

I don't know your machine but if it's like the M Series, is it possible Split Night is set to ON? It should be set to OFF.

Thanks - It was set to off, but I'll check it again. The weird thing is that on the download, I can see what I think is indication of ramp (looks like a ramp going back up to the straight line). I didn't push ramp. Everything that I'm confident of during the night seems subject to doubt the next day. Maybe it was really blowing and I didn't notice, etc. If there was a big gap like I had been getting, I would know it was off, but there was just a little gap, which may have occurred when I turned it off and then back on. Not sure. And regarding the latter event, there was a central apnea noted around that time. I wonder if it's possible I wasn't breathing, woke up and thought there was no air coming and then exhaled (or was it inhaled?) and it started again? It's really hard to do experiments in the middle of the night!
