Merry Christmas, Good News/Bad News

Merry Christmas to all! Yep, it's da ol Kajun here, finally pokin' my head up and renewing my posting here.

Like I said in the title. This has been a year of good news/bad news. My oldest brother, Terry, lost his home in Galveston, TX last year during Hurricane Ike. It burned down during the height of the storm. Yeah, I know, how can ANYONE lose a house to a fire during a hurricane??? Seems that a power line snapped and sparked and ignited the entire row of townhomes (6 of 'em) and burned them down to the ground. Sheesh! On top of that, he had been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer about a year before that and had undergone chemotherapy, then radiation and chemotherapy. AND his wife died about a year before, from kidney failure. Poor guy had nothing but bad luck for almost 5 years. But, worst luck of all, he had to come live with Sweetie, Bunny and I! OK, so he didn't HAVE to, but we had plenty of room and lots of love to share, so he came and spent his last year and 2 months with us. He passed away on October 28 of this year. OK, so here's the good news: He accepted Jesus about 4 weeks before his death and got a lock on heaven! HOORAY!!

Sooooooo, that's the main reason I haven't been posting here like I used to. It's been a tough year, but he had a great run while he was with us, up till about a month before his death, and he wouldn't have had near that if he'd remained in Galveston. He knew he was loved and taken great care of. We done good.

Latest on my apnea: yep, still using my old faithful PB 420E every night, but ordered a new Sandman Bundle yesterday and Sandman + humidifier for Sweetie. WOOHOO Should arrive next week. Yep, Sweetie and I are gonna have matching APAPs. Ahhhh, love! Ain't it wonderful?? Of course we ordered from our host. No other companies even considered!

Nice to read the posts and see a bunch of old faces (ok, not old in age, just old in that we've known each other for almost 5 years now) and some new faces.

Hi Tx, it so wonderful to see you here again!
This is one sentence I'll remember for many years to come: "OK, so he didn't HAVE to, but we had plenty of room and lots of love to share" that says so much, is so few words. Your love for him - and for others - is so palpable. I'm sure your brother felt great comfort in being with you for his last year.

You and I have sort of been like ships in the night. I stopped posting for awhile while you were posting and then I started posting when you stopped - I think - because I don't 'know' you. So hello! And welcome back : )

I'm so happy for you and your brother. I understand how important it is for him to have resolution before he died and how that helped you rest too. PTL : )

While I am glad my hubby doesn't have apnea, I do think it is so sweet to have both spouses hooked up. My cousin and his wife were both diagnosed at the same time and each went home with their new machines. So sweet.

Welcome back! (I am new here, as of April.) Sorry to hear about your brother. This year seems to have had a bumper crop of this kind of tragic event. (A person I am aware of got shot, then injured at work then burned in a fire, and then got cancer and died from it, all within 4 months. And he was only 20. He died a 'King's kid', too.) Look forward to your participation here again.

I have a friend who lost their home in Crystal Beach during Ike. Ended up holing up in a church with his lion until things settled down.

Thank ya'll all for the warm welcome-back. It's been a long, long year, but I think Sweetie, Bunny and I are gonna be better people for going through the experiences with my bro. Yep, it's gonna be nice to has Sweetie on da hose, too.....now I can appreciate what she went through for 3 years before I was diagnosed! Ahhhh, a good night's sleep.....together. That'll be about da bestest Christmas present we can give each other.

Anywho, a hearty hello to all who've responded and a heartier wave hi to all the new folks and best wishes to all for a very Merry Christmas.
