New BiPap versu Old One

Post by chromman » Sat Dec 12, 2009 5:27 pm

Had to spend some health account money and I purchased a new M Series BIPAP Auto with Bi-Flex. I had an old ResMed. I really like the small size and I purchased for travel. I tried it out and was surprised that is was much louder than my older unit. Much louder in the mask. I also notice the Bi-flex changes the noise up/down more than my old unit. I can fall asleep but it takes longer. Is there anyway to decrease the noise or is this just because it is a smaller unit? Di I mentioned the size was great for traveling!

Try using the soft foam earplugs to block the increased noise. It works for me.

The Auto BiPAP is a little louder and it does have a particular variation of the frequency of the noise with BiFlex engaged, but personally, just like Dakota_Dude, I find I have to wear earplugs with both brands of autobilevel, Respironics and ResMed, because I am very sensitive to noise. I find that the earplugs increase the in-mask noise a bit, but the decrease in room noise helps me go to sleep.

Interesting. The M Series is a pound heavier than the S8s and the S8s are much less bother setting up and taking down when traveling.

Yeah, but I think the "M" stands for manly, because it's square, rugged-looking, comes with a power brick, and doesn't look like a toy.

I like my S8. I just like the looks and the idea of the M. But like you say, Slinky: I got no taste!

I have the BiPAP Auto-M as well, but since it's my first machine, I didn't have any baseline to which to compare it.

Until now.

Thanks a lot.

Wait: actually, I am still quite happy, since I have no other baseline for comparison. I am very comfortable with the machine; it's the masks that seem to be giving me grief.

So, to a practical answer then: I have routinely used a pink noise generator for decades, whether at home (an old FM receiver tuned to nothing, and with bass boosted) or on the road (my laptop plus a $35 set of computer speakers, running a pink noise generator my son wrote for me).

The pink noise overrides environmental noises like traffic, adjacent hotel rooms, neighbors, wives, or visiting grandchildren.

I even used it to help me get through my sleep study.

TWW,

Well, I think its only, like, maybe, 2 dB louder. But everyone is sensitive to different frequencies. I used one for several weeks after using the VPAP Auto over a year, and after I got used to the slight increase in noise and the different feel of it, I felt I got very good treatment with it. And that's what matters. If you switched to a quieter machine, you might be kept awake for a while by missing the noise!

Did you say your son wrote a wife-noise-generator program?

The noise doesn't bother me. It does bother my wife tho but it only bothers her when I am at work. She said she has become used to the noise from my machine and has trouble falling asleep if it's not on. She said it's not that loud and I didn't think it was either compared to the old tv sized one I had.

I have a M-Series Bi-Pap Auto. This is my third machine. I started out with a real piece of Junk Machine, no bells no whistles just a blower and a mask. Remstar Plus set at 20cm. I got another machine a Remstar Pro-2 w/Cflex just as loud as the first machine. I got my current machine about a year and a half ago. I got it in June or July of last year. I do not find it any louder than the two previous machines I have owned.
My wife and I were traveling in our RV and my spare machine quit so I bought another M-Series Bi-Pap Auto from CPAP.Com I think that buying the M-Series Machines are one of the best investments I have ever made.
