This is counter intuitive but always worth understanding what the researcher is really trying to tell us.
But for me, OSA is the top end of a slippery-slide & it goes down all the way until eventually it is too late to do anything.
Stop the slide down as early as possible.

They don't give links to the actual study ... my first response is that the study is flawed but who knows?
I'll take my chances in assuming that the study is indeed flawed
I did enjoy their "FEMAIL" column though

Well high blood pressure creates a bigger heart muscle but that doesn't mean it works longer & better.
It would be interesting to see what their control sample is.
All I can say is that I would rather live with my cpap and be a nice functional person.

I just read this article and then I came here to discuss. My guess is the study is flawed.
BUT.... some interesting Philosophical questions popped in my head.
Here's the imaginary scenario. Let's say that, indeed, the study is 100% true.
Thus my choices:
A. I have the potential to live longer by snoring/ waking all night (and having debilitating EDS), or
B. my life is potentially cut short by treating the OSA-- but now sleeping peacefully and eliminating the EDS
Personally, I would rather live a shorter life that is of high quality than a longer life of low quality. I've achieved far more goals (in quantity and quality) in the 6 months since treatment began compared to the six months previous to treatment. So i choose B. (even though its a false choice)
Of course, that's potential life expectancy. I could spend my life working out , eating healthy, and abstaining from all sorts of hedonism. Deriving some sort of pleasure from being ascetic. Really working hard at being good and being healthy, all to have it end by getting run over by a bus or getting shot at 36.
What do you think? What would you choose?

Re: Isreali research -- Why Snoring Is GOOD for Your Health
Considering the enormous improvement in health that generally accompanies successful treatment of OSA, I would conclude that treating OSA is the ight thing to do. By making you feel better, you are generally more active. And being more active strengthens everything, not just the heart.
I would guess that if they studied the lifespan of successfully treated severe OSA, vs untreated, they would find a substantial improvement is longevity in the treated group. In any case, one small study does not a conclusion make.

Far out!One theory is that the constant breaks in oxygen and blood supply to organs, caused by the pauses in the breathing, somehow strengthen the heart and brain; this means that if a heart attack or a stroke occurs, the body is better able to deal with it.
Completely out of touch with conventional medicine, but far out!
I also found this catchy title while unsuccessfully attempting to research the potential health benefits of hypoxia.
Hypoxic Preconditioning Enhances the Benefit of Cardiac Progenitor Cell Therapy for Treatment of Myocardial Infarction by Inducing CXCR4 Expression

I asked my sleep doctor about the report - here is what she said -
I read that article which came out of Isreal but basically it is a very small study which should
be taken with a very large pinch of salt.
