No one around here takes them and unless you want to travel for some distance your out of luck -- doctors, etc. say that UHC reimbursements are so minimal that they would rather lose the business than take their insurance. Just my luck our board has decided to continue with them for next year!!
They(u.h.c.) hustle a lot of different policies so its hard to compare but have heard a doctor or two say how little they get from uhc.It was surprising to see uhc paid over 2400 for a split study at a sleep center, they seem to pay really well for diagnostic services .Might be that a large % of people in my area have affordable insurance so the medical community has to take some of the policies or they would have to hand out pills in a pain clinic to make money .

Evidently a provider for UHC can withdraw mid contract, as one of my doctors do just that. Of course I found out about it when I showed up for an appointment for which I'd waited 6 weeks. That said, while the contract is in effect they must stick to the contracted rates - that's why it's a contract.

If the provider refuses to provide service at that rate, you can raise a fuss, call UHC and they may fire them, but I doubt you can force a provider to do business with you. The whole notion of agreeing to reduced rates is to increase volume to make that up and more. If the volume doesn't materialize I can't fault them for dropping the insurance.

It's going to be okay in the end; if it's not okay, it's not the end.
