Information about Resmed machines

Post by woodg » Wed Nov 25, 2009 7:07 pm

Can anyone summarize the difference in the Resmed machines for me?

I'm going through trying to get my DME provider to upgrade me, but it may be an uphill battle. I'm willing to buy one on my own dime if necessary and that might work out well for me since I travel extensively for my work. I feel like the travel is enough that having an extra machine would be a good idea, especially since my busiest time of year, I have a truck that goes everywhere I do and I can leave it with some other personal items that I keep on the truck.

Anyway to the original point, what are the major differences between the Escape, Elite and Autoset? Also what is the difference between the ones that I've seen that are do not have the "II" designation? Is this just an earlier model? I've already been told that I should get the Elite rather than the Escape, simply for the full data recording feature. Are there any other features that are advantageous? And also the same questions regarding the Autoset. If I understand what I've read correctly, the Autoset will adjust the pressure as needed automatically? Is this it, or is there more?

Thanks for all the help that I know will be coming soon.

Happy Thanksgiving

Gary

I'll have a go at a brief answer.

Escape = basic cpap (non non Auto machine) no data recording (IIRC it does record hrs used but not any nightly detail)

Elite = cpap (non non Auto machine) but does offer detailed data recording

Autoset = Auto version hich of course includes data recording

I am not 100% certain but I think the current models of all three of the above, do display AHI (as AI & HI data) on the LCD prior to midday.

xPAP and Quattro std mask (plus a pad-a-cheek anti-leak strap)

Hi, if you can afford it, get the S8 Autoset II. I have the Resmed S8 Autoset II and am very happy with it. You will then have 2 choices in one machine: the auto option--where you can set a minimum/maximum pressure, or the cpap option--where you can set it to a set pressure.

The Elite II is cpap, one set pressure only. Both are data capable.

At cpap.com, the S8 Autoset II is $639, with heated humidifier
and the Elite II is $498, with heated humidifier

If I am understanding you correctly and you are a professional big rig hauler you are now REQUIRED to have a FULLY DATA CAPABLE xPAP if you need to be on CPAP therapy.

You might want to "talk" w/TruckerDad over at apneasupport.com as he is a professional driver and up on all the new regulations and can advise you about the various fully data capable xPAPs, batteries, etc.

The Resmed S8 Elite w/EPR and the Resmed S8 AutoSet Vantage were introduced in 2006.
The Resmed S8 Elite II w/EPR and the Resmed S8 AutoSet II w/EPR were introduced in 2008.
All four are fully data capable.

No Resmed w/Compact or Escape in the model name is fully data capable.

I have the AutoSet II machine.

I'm happy with it but would not purchase another.

Why? Discovered I do better on straight pressure rather than AUTO and been that way for the past year.

If purchasing another Resmed machine I would get the Elite II.

No, I'm not a trucker. I work in network television production and the equipment that I am responsible for travels on a truck from venue to venue each week. My whole crew has some personal gear that we bring at the start of the season and leave on the truck with the rest of our equipment, so that we don't have to take some stuff that is a pain to have to pack on aircraft or have an additional bag to check from week to week.

Anything less that I have to carry from week to week make life easier for the duration of the particular season.

So, Paul. You don't run your AutoSet II in straight CPAP mode?

Or you run it in straight CPAP mode but wouldn't buy another because the AutoSet CAN be run in Auto mode?

Or you just mean you wouldn't spend the extra money to get an APAP again and would just save a few dollars and buy a fully data capable straight CPAP like the Elite II instead?

I run the Autoset II in straight CPAP mode.

I would not buy another Autoset II because I don't need the AUTO functionality... not because I'm not happy with the machine.

I really want to pickup a spare machine at some point. The Elite II is a consideration considering I have everything to go with it.

Will the H4i humidifier work on the Escape, Elite and Autoset machines?

As long as they are S8 IIs, yes.

I don't know if the Humidiare 4i can be used w/the S8s.

Slinky & all

I believe the 4i can be used on the earlier machine (that is the whole 4hi unit not just the chamber) because you can buy upgrade kits to replace the 3is.
I think the differences are in appearance not function. But I am not going to swear 100% to this

I AM VERY OVERWEIGHT AND HAVE SEVERE SLEEP APNEA.NOW AFTER ABOUT FOUR MONTHS OF ATTEMPTED USE OF A RESPERONICS BI-PAP, I AM MORE FRUSTRATED THAN EVER. I HAVE PROBLEMS RUNNING MY MACHINE AND CAN GET NO ANSWERS OR DIRECTIONS FORM MY SUPPLIER. I CAN USE THE DEVICE FOR ABOUT AN HOUR TO TWOO AT MOST, THEN THE THREE INDICATOR LIGHTS GO OFF AND THE ALARM BEEPS, MY PROGRAM SCREEN SAYS "SERVICE REQUIRED". THE SUPPLIER HAD ME TRADE FOR NEW DEVICE (AFTER FIRST SEPARATING IT FORM THE ATTACHED HUMIDIFER), AND LO, I GET THE SAME PROBLEM.ALOS THE DEVICE WILL JUST STOP FUNCTIONING, WAKING ME UP IF I AM ALREADY SLEEPING. SOMETHING IS WRONG; I CAN'T FIGURE WHY:TWO MACHINES IN A ROW) COULD IT BE PROBLEMS WITH THE HUMIDIFIER CONNECTION? I'VE TRIED DIFFERENCT ELECTRICAL OUTLETS,ETC.-USE IT BOTH WITH AND W.O. MY OXYGEN SCRUBBER INPUT; STILL HAVE SAME PROBLEM. MY SUPPLIER IS NO HELP, ALTHOUGHT THEY DID SWAP BI-PAP UNITS JUST TO COME UP WITH SAME PROBLEM! ANYBODY ELSE HAVE THIS PROBLEM? IF SO, HOW DID YOU SOLVE THIS?

I would try contacting Respironics directly.
