A few things I liked on that link:

"We can't stand being wrong in a debate!!"

"everything in moderation - including moderation itself
but on another side, I have learned to totally ignore dominant and frequent posters -
their views do become predictable and very much repeated, balance is important and encouraging diversity of post and response is of value to me"

"I like to remember the following quote when being 'trolled':
It is impossible to defeat an ignorant man in argument. -William G. McAdoo, lawyer and politician (1863-1941)"

Love the quote. So True!

Of course, I sometimes try, and regret the wasted time later.

Hi All

Also at the ABC is the transcript of a talk on censorship and offensiveness -

http://www.abc.net.au/local/stories/200 ... ite=sydney

which may also be interesting to some.

I've found the best and most effective censorship is self-censorship! All I can ever control is how I act and react. If I find something else offensive, how can I react to it in a manner that changes the situation in a positive manner. How can my response add value to the community. Then before I hit "submit", I always try to read the post as if I never read it before. And then I ask myself, does the post help others. And that's the key. How does my life reflect my values? Does it lead others toward a more positive approach where we help one another.

If we do that, the community becomes helpful for everyone. And it tends to take the wind out of the sail of the troll who loves to roil others. And I'm pleased to see that most people here seem to want to do what they can to help one another. It makes a big difference for everyone.
