Can I leave humidifier without water?

Post by newname » Wed Nov 25, 2009 1:51 pm

Does it have to have water in it if I don't turn it on? I don't like the feeling of hot air up my nose so I don't use it. Would I just leave it sitting empty on the machine. I have a Respironics Legacy (I think its what people here refer to as the tank)

Not sure about leaving it empty. If it's attached, even if turned off (passover mode, not to be confused with the Jewish holiday ), I think it's supposed to have water in it.

you can leave it off without any problems as long as its empty. You may want to add water to it and leave it off then you will get some additional humidity without the heat.

We keep distilled water in the tank but don't turn it on ( passover mode). We add water every few nights and empty ,wash and air dry every few weeks.

I have ran my "Classic TANK", with the HH attached but not turned on without water, I do it to muffle some of the breathing sounds, no harm will come to it without water as long as you don't set it to heat. Jim

This summer I ended up leaving my m series humidifier attached and didn't put water in it. Make sure the heat is NOT turned on. It hasn't hurt my tank running it dry with no heat.

Yes...no water is fine, but don't turn it on.
