S8 AutoSet II
S8 AutoSet II
Last few mornings I have been tossing a towel over the machine for the day...
Last evening I discovered the machine was quite warm... likely due to power supply components and restricted cooling airflow around the machine due to the towel.
Without a cover the machine feels room temperature warm. Interesting.
...thought I would share.

Machine continues to blow a little air after turned off. I read this is to cool machine humidifer plate (with nice added benefit drying hose), question if covering machine results in inability to cool down!!!!
All S8 and S8 II CPAP Machines utilize a "Cool Down" feature that runs the CPAP Motor up to 1 hour after turning the machine off. The motor helps to cool off the humidifier plate. You may hear a "faint blowing sound" when you turn the machine off. However, you can unplug the power cord and allow the heater plate to cool without airflow. Yes, I'm aware of the machine blowing for a few minutes after turning it off.... however, the machine was warm when I took the towel off it last evening... several hours after it would have stopped blowing. Even with it blowing all night long the machine never rises above room temperature... except if covered.

Re: S8 AutoSet II
I am new to this to but I have an S8 Escape II. Do you cover the unit at night while you are using it?
I have noticed lately that my humidifier chamber will be 3/4 full one night and 1/4 full the next night. So I am getting low humidity and good humidity on different nights. I keep the setting the same, and always start the night with a full chamber of water.
I don't know why the variation is happening. I have my machine in a nightstand but not covered with a towel so it gets air circulation. As far as the cooling of the heater plate mine is cool less than 45 seconds after I remove the chamber. I don't think this is normal.
I am sorry I am not answering your question regarding why your machine is still cool during the night. Do you have the humidifier turned up?

Re: S8 AutoSet II
It's a warming up that has nothing to do with the blowing air. I keep my machine in a drawer -- out for the night in for the day -- and discovered that I have to disconnect the ResMed if don't want it to warm up -- even if the blowing has long stopped.

Re: S8 AutoSet II
With the S8 Escape II you have no way of checking your Leak rate. But mask or mouth leaks are the most likely cause of the erratic water levels in your humidifier tank in the morning.

Re: S8 AutoSet II
My autoset II stays running for hours after I push stop and it will not turn off until I unplug it. Display says "warming". Which makes it sound like its trying to warm up? strange.Yes, I'm aware of the machine blowing for a few minutes after turning it off....
Its not blowing much air, a slight stream at best.
Ideas?
Thanks,
Phil

During the warming phase, It blows a small amount of air to keep the tube dry and not create hot spots. Same thing when you shut it off after a night.peppi wrote:My autoset II stays running for hours after I push stop and it will not turn off until I unplug it. Display says "warming". Re: S8 AutoSet II
Even when the S8, or just about any modern xPAP machine is turned 'off', it is really not off. The microcontroller continues to run, basically doing the housekeeping chores discussed here, and then looking for a signal to turn 'on' again. The microcontrollers in these machines are probably not optimized for low power consumption, so they will generate some heat. I wouldn't personally cover the machine with a cloth in the morning, but I wouldn't worry too much provided that the machine is only slightly warm.
As far as the varying levels of water in the humidifier, I bet that this is mainly in response to the relative humidity of the room. When the air is dry, it picks up a lot more water out of the humidifier. When the air is humid, it picks up less out of the humidifier.

Re: S8 AutoSet II
Does anyone see a problem with unplugging every morning?
Power company runs ads all day about unplugging your cell phone charger when not in use
Im sure this appliance is using way more energy than that.
It would be great for ResMed to add an Energy Saver on/off feature that would allow the thing to really shut off.
Next thing you know CA will be banning it along with Plasmas!
LOL.

I unlpug mine every morning. Don't know if that's messing with the data, but I doubt it. We try to minimize vampire devices in our house as much as possible.
