my mask is making a complete racket!
my mask is making a complete racket!
A few nights ago I managed to knock my mask around a little too hard. (Resmed Mirage Full Face.) Now, it's INCREDIBLY noisy. I tried taking the little silicone vent thingy at the top out and put it back in again, but it only made it worse. Any suggestions on what I can do?

Re: my mask is making a complete racket!
It that made it worse, you put it back in wrong. Make sure it's put in correctly and fully seated.
If it's STILL noisier than normal, make sure you didn't knock the "nose swivel" (where the hose attaches) loose OR break one of the tabs that hold it together (that's an expensive fix, if you need new parts...).
Some masks have a silicone "flap valve" in the swivel. Dunno about the Mirage, but you can easily see if it does. I have had those stick and/or fail to seat. With the machine running (and hooked up...duh), hold your fingers over the swivel vents. While exhaling, remove your fingers and the valve will unstick and "thunk" shut. If that was the problem you will notice the peaceful silence.

The OSA patient died quietly in his sleep.

That little vent up on the nose bridge can and will make a racket if it isn't seated properly or if it is partially blocked. Their is a chance when you bumped it and how you bumped it that something is stuck in or on it and that could be part of the problem.
Down on the bottom in the swivel part is a valve. If you bumped that part hard enough to partly dislodge it you could have noise coming from there.
In the swivel their is a clear circular valve it that is installed wrong or only partially seated it will make noise.
If you have the owners manual it will show you how to take the mask apart for cleaning and how all the parts go back on. If it doesn't look like it is put together correctly it probably isn't. You can get a copy of the manual online on the manufacturers web site.
