Is it possible to have lower AHI than previously?

Post by Catatrina » Sat Nov 21, 2009 10:26 pm

I recently changed CPAP machine from Resperonics M-Series to IntelliPaP Auto Travel CPAP. I have been using IntelliPap for about 1 month and my AHI are staying at
5.5 or less per hour. No leaks, no more high pressures above 7. My range is 5-15 and I never go beyond 6 any more. For a whole year I used Resperonics M-Series
and had constant fluctuations with pressure range from 8-11 and now the norm is 5? That is confusing to me. The only thing that is different besides using
IntelliPap Auto Adjust is that I mainly use the Swift LT for her nasal pillow rather than FF Mask. I never have leaks any more like I did with FF mask. I even got use
to the no exhale relief as I had on previous machine. Maybe I am just getting to use CPAP therapy and maybe changing machines was the best thing I ever did. Has anyone else
had this experience? I do get read outs with Smartcode daily and pressures do stay consistently 5 to 6 at most, occasional non-responding event and AHI 5.5 or less per hr. Before
I had 9 or greater. So I am a little confused and happy at the same time if things have improved this much.

That's good news, you must feel so pleased, albeit puzzled.

Did you change masks the same day as changing cpap machines? I'm wondering, if you changed 2 things at the same time, it would be difficult to know which made the difference. I find that if my mask is comfortable, then I sleep better, and my AHI is lower. Or, it could be that the Intellipap suits you better. Or both.

Anyway, congratulations.
