2 New Guy questions

Post by desert rider » Fri Nov 13, 2009 12:31 pm

Question 1:

How do y'all talk to your spouses? Do you take off your mask? Do you pull it up a little and talk through the flow? Pantomime?

Question 2:

Is it normal to sound like a windstorm? I wake up in the middle of the night wondering why it's suddenly so windy outside. Then I realize that it's only windy inside!

Whatever she says...I say.."Yes, dear...right away, dear."....mask or no mask.

You'll get used to that. Think of it as a very
expensive sound machine.....ocean waves...a wind storm....

....and it's giving you a new life.

Pretty good deal.

Greetings desert rider

As a wife, I think I should retrain my dh to follow Carbonman's lead. We have been married yyyyears, can I change him now?

Hmmm, a windstorm in southern cal . . yea, I remember some of those, but they were outside. I have had two cpap machines. a ResMed 8 Elite. I couldn't tell if I had turned it on until the blowing hit my mask . . it was quiet. My next unit is a Fisher and Paykel 608. It is as sound proof as the ResMed. Until I get the leaks under control in a new mask, I get a lot of noise, that I am not fond of.

Hope you don't get blown away.

Jan

Bed time etiquette - do not put the mask on until you are ready to go to sleep.

'Til I am or she is? Ya know how those questions just keep on coming?

I guess I'll have to make up a glow-in-the-dark sign that says "Yes dear ... uh huh."

It sounds really creepy when I try to talk like Darth Vader with the nasal mask on.

"Yes dear" is always a good (safe) approach. My wife and I have gotten to the point where questions are asked and things discussed before bedtime. It was bothersome when, as I am warm and comfy and drifting off, suddenly it's 20 Questions! Bedtime is sleep-time.

Anyway, I don't put on my mask until I'm ready to go to sleep. We kiss, I put my mask on, we snug and that's it. If she does ask something (Did you hear that?, etc.) I just speak with my nasal pillow mask on. It just kind of sounds like I'm talking with my nose plugged.

I would say, give her a kiss and mask up when you're ready to sleep. Eventually (maybe) she'll get the idea that unless the question is of pressing importance (Did you turn the oven off?, Is the house on fire?, Do you want to have sex?) than it can wait until morning.

I prepared in advance. Never have married (or plan to) or had a GF.

The cats are a different matter. At least you don't need to talk to them.
