Snoring with mask on?
I appear to be snoring whilst wearing my quattro full face mask. Is this something that should not happen now I am on cpap?? I always have snored but thought I had stopped since starting treatment.

If you're not sleeping on your back, you might want to ask an ENT MD about it because you could have physical obstructions like turbinate problems, etc. that need looking at. If you are sleeping on your back, don't do it.

My snoring was world class before starting on CPAP. It greatly diminished, but didn't go away when I first got started. Over the next 2 or 3 months, my snoring started to ramp up again. No where near like it was before CPAP, but enough to show up in my data on a consistent basis. I bumped up my pressure by 1 unit, from 19 to 20, and that knocked out all the snores. I have only seen one or two snores in my data over the past 6 months.
It could be that you are right on the edge, and a small change in pressure could eliminate them. Some folks say that a little snoring is OK. Others say that any snoring will disrupt your sleep, and you should try to eliminate them if possible. I guess it boils down to how you feel, and if you have other reasons to try to go after the snores.

I've been on cpap for three months shy of 3 years and almost always have some snores showing in my data. I upped the pressure .5 for about a week one time, and although the snores decreased (but did not disappear entirely each night) the AHI went up some, so I dropped it back down.

I looked back through your posts to see what your pressure is and found one where you said it was set at 11 cm.deadhead77 wrote:I appear to be snoring whilst wearing my quattro full face mask. From my experience, I snored alot at pressures of 10 and 11, but when I got to 12 (and did some nasal cleansing before bedtime) it dropped to almost nothing.
You don't have a data-capable machine, but ResMed machines don't record "Snores" anyway, so that wouldn't help to upgrade in that regard. But, if you could get the Elite II, that would at least help you to know what your other nightly statistics are.
So, it would be my recommendation to try nasal cleansing before bedtime (if you're not already) and bump your pressure up a little.

Re: Snoring with mask on?
I just saw my pulmonologist this morning and one of the main issues I wanted to address was the fact that in the past month I've awakened myself with really rounded, sound snores.
I didn't snore prior to using Bipap -- I used to gasp and hold my breath, or so I've been told -- so this snoring came as a suprise.
The past week I've been awakened by snoring each and every night and I knew my pressure needs a bumping.
Well...I told doc about it and at first he thought I might be imagining the snores...but I convinced him I wasn't.
Then...he thought my mask might be leaking helping to cause the snoring. I convinced him that wasn't the problem.
Well...he finally upped my pressures.
Apria has to come out and set up the machine. As he was writing out the orders and telling me he'd put in the call to them...I finished his sentence by saying it might be weeks before I hear from them.
I can't wait to get this problem fixed. I'm beginning to feel tired all day, again.
From what I've heard and read...snoring with CPAP/BIPAP isn't a good thing.

Re: Snoring with mask on?
Thanks for that guys,I think based upon what has been said that I shall see this as not good and get it sorted out. Just underpins the need to be able to monitor your own treatment I think.
I feel an apap machine and learning curve coming on....
