one year anniversary

Post by 2flamingos » Fri Nov 06, 2009 1:32 pm

Yesterday was my one year anniversary of therapy, and I am so glad my SO hounded me into telling my doc about my problems. I won't say everything is perfect, but my AHI is usually around 3, and leak rate well within range for my mask and pressure. Taking other underlying health issues and unpreventable stress levels into consideration, I feel pretty darn good. If not on PAP, I don;t think I would be able to handle all that is going on in my life right now.

Since I am so open about my therapy, I have convinced 3 coworkers and 2 close friends to get tested. 4 out of 5 had OSA and are now on PAP. I give them encouragement every chance I get. I have even had long discussion with a sibling about their issues in not using their machine. Not an easy task since this sibling rarely listens to advice, or breaks into tears whenever told something that they don't want to hear.

Congratulations on your 1 year anniversary. Your AHI is good, as most doc's like mine look for numbers below 5. I was like your sibling when my family and friends and even doctors told me to exercise and diet correctly to lose weight but since starting on August 10th and on weight watcher's I have lost almost 8 pounds. I have convinced one of my sister's friends to get a PSG and she is due to go to the Doctor to go back for her titration. As per me it is my 3 month anniversary on November 10th of this year. I have been compliant but because all I had was my Nasal masks for almost a fortnight I couldn't use my machine because I was really clogged and didn't have a FFM, just ordered one through my DME.

Hi,

That is good to hear...congrats on staying with it. I am coming up on my 1st anniversary shortly. While it hasn't been a complete cakewalk, 2009 has been a very memorable year for me. If it wasn't for this year, the entire decade of the 2000s would have been one big collective disaster. While it might be nice to have the 1990s back again for a 2nd pass, I do have my optimism back, and I am looking forward to 2010. I have things to do, and I plan to be awake for it.

Congrats, 2! Here's hopes for many more to come.

I realized that today was my two-year anniversary. How time flies... But seeing as how we're both celebrating, let's do the happy dance. Image Image

Congrats on this milestone, and for your work as a cpap ambassador. 4 out of 5 - pretty good. Did you ask the other one to see their report to make sure it captured them supine and in REM?

BB - congrats on hitting the big 2! Bet you're glad the "terrible twos" doesn't apply to cpap.

Thanks, Kathy, but don't be envious (on my account, anyway). My brain had been like a sieve for so long pre-diagnosis that I wrote everything down that seemed important. I kept a sleep log when I started xPAP treatment, figuring I could help the sleep doc treat me (what a waste of time that was), and I still have my notes. So, long story short, I have hard evidence of the start of my xPAP journey to rely on; otherwise, I'd be scratching my head and saying, "I think it was sometime in late 2007, but don't quote me on that..."

Congratulations on your first "cpap" anniversary, 2flamingos!!

You're doing a great thing for yourself and for others, by encouraging them to get sleep studies.

Great job on sticking with it! Congratulations! What's more...you are helping others. Super! It is selfless of you to reach out and talk about your therapy instead of hiding it. Bravo!
