Regenesis Pillow - Tips?

Post by rubymom » Thu Nov 05, 2009 8:32 am

I broke down and purchased a Regenesis pillow and have been using it for a couple of weeks now. I'm a side sleeper and I like the idea of being able to "mold" the pillow and have it stay where I want it - i.e. not pressing on my mask.

The first couple of days seemed to go well. I thought the pillow was pretty comfortable. I had originally used probably about 2/3 of the hulls and then decided to add more (to probably about 85% of the hulls) because I wanted more support for my head.

I'm finding that I hear what sounds like leaking air where the pillow meets the seal all the time. Yet when I lift my head slightly off the pillow, I don't feel or hear any leaks. I've also been having headaches for the past couple of weeks and I'm starting to wonder if it's from the pillow? Has anyone experienced this? I'm wondering if I'm not subconsciously putting my head into weird positions (i.e. to get to the point where I don't hear that leak).

It seems to be getting worse. I'm back to feeling like I'm constantly making adjustments all night long to either the pillow or the mask and I'm not getting good sleep.

My AHI's are low--always 1.5 or under and my leak rates are within the acceptable range for my mask with only the rare large leak. I was back to the point last night where I ripped the thing off but then as I tried to go back to sleep I made myself put it back on.

Does anyone have any tips on making this pillow work for me? Thanks!

I also have this pillow and love it. I do admit that it took a bit to get used to. What I do is, after I have my head situated, I "carve out" a little valley right where my mask sits against the pillow. Try to make the pillow adjusted to you, not the other way around. I'm also a side sleeper, and I squoosh some of the hulls up into the area around my shoulder / neck, to support my neck. I've had neck/back problems as long as I can remember, and this pillow is better on my neck than any I have ever used...even than my $100 tempurpedic pillow, I believe because I can get it perfectly conformed to my neck.

If nothing else is going on, I would suspect the headaches are either from holding your head/neck strangely, or adjusting to the different texture of the pillow.

Hope this was helpful and didn't sound too much like a commercial! No financial interest in the company, I just really love the pillow.
