Yearly Tune-up?

Post by Fredman » Tue Nov 03, 2009 8:47 pm

My DME has called me and said it is time for my machine's yearly tune-up?

I never have had a tune up on this machine, but had the cm H2O pressure checked once when I complained that the pressure started to climb to quickly (just as I started to fall asleep - causing me to wake). This is my second DME in the four years I have had this unit, no one has offered a check-up.

I am a bit hesitant to take it in...has anyone heard of this "tune-up" being offered? Is it necessary? I am curious what a tune up consists of

Hi,

Why not ask them what is included in the tune-up and what the costs are. It could be that they are fishing for business, but just as likely, they follow a best practice of checking your machine on a periodic basis. An annual pressure check makes sense, as does a download of your data card and checking your accessories for wear and tear.

Given your experience level and knowledge with CPAP, you would probably notice pretty quickly if your treatment wasn't working, and you probably take good care of your equipment, so I suspect you could skip it. It would probably be much more beneficial for patients that are not involved with their treatment.

Good advice. I am kind of leaning towards having it done as I qualify to purchase new machine next year October and my Remstar will become my nap unit.

I am going to find a nice a decorative box with a lid, cut a hole in the back for the electrical cord and put the whole thing inside beside my lazyboy. When I feel a nap coming on, I can reach over, throw on the mask and have a nice little nap without having to head to the beadroom!

Go to the bathroom mirror, open mouth and check for hooks or line, it sounds like they are fishing. Be sure you don't swallow the hook, it takes a long time to digest hooks. Jim

When the Dr told me that mine needed one... it was just a pressure check.

Ahh, GoofProof, dear heart, you have SUCH a suspicious mind! Your xPAP's Users Manual recommends a once a year checkup for your xPAP - and my guess is that is probably not much more than checking the filter(s) and checking the accuracy of the pressure output. If there is anything else the provider tries to talk you into you can just say "No".
