anyone had weight loss surgery?
anyone had weight loss surgery?
I am almost 3 weeks out from gastric sleeve surgery. Basically made my stomach MUCH smaller. I started my cpap strong and was compliant right away. The only problem was a tummy full of air. Dr. said, yes, with hiatal hernias, etc the air can get diverted into stomach. Now, after surgery, I have not been able to use the cpap, mostly fear I think, of tearing stitches or staples. Also, the pressure (12-15) seems way to strong now. Anyone else had this situation?
Re: anyone had weight loss surgery?
I'm 1-week out from RNY gastric bypass surgery (laparoscopic) and haven't had any problems like that. Some gasiness from the anesthesia is normal although I don't know enough to be definitive on this topic I did drop the pressure on my CPAP slightly and my AHI is improving.
If you have software to monitor your therapy, I'd suggest doing that and see what happens.
Good luck!
Mindy

Re: anyone had weight loss surgery?
Oh yeah, the pain from the anesthesia gas was the worst!! Worse than the incisions. I forgot, that is one reason I couldn't keep it on right after surgery. I am going to try again tonight. I just wondered if anyone else had the air in the stomach issues. Best wishes on your pouch! Lots of adjustments huh?

Yes - many adjustments! The 3-week stage 2 diet gets pretty boring but I've lost 10 lbs already (seems to be running at a about a pound per day).lj wrote:Oh yeah, the pain from the anesthesia gas was the worst!! I'm not sure but I gather the pain is from the CO2 gas they use to inflate the abdomen so they can see what they're doing. Apparently it irritates the nerves which causes the pain. I only needed the pain meds for that.
Good luck with your gastric sleeve! We don't have that available! I hope decreasing the pressure a little will help with your air in the stomach problem.
