Machines vs. Masks -- My Intellipap experience.

Post by fasttimes » Mon Oct 26, 2009 9:52 am

I posted this on another forum, but no one responded. Seems like better traffic here.

-------

I got my first machine in 2001 and gave up trying to use it after a few months. In 2005 I tried again with the same results.

Each time the problem was the masks were uncomfortable, would make a ton of noise (at least me the wearer would hear it) and would blow air all over my face. Try as I might I just couldnt get used to it. I must have tried at least 20 different masks.

Both machines were Remstar with flex, humidifier etc.. The guy that fitted me called them the cadillac of CPAP machines. So recently I was trying again with the 2nd machine when I found out I had to do a bit of travelling. After running through some hoops I got my Rx and ordered a DeVilbiss IntelliPAP AutoAdjust and a Opus mask. I was already using the Opus mask with the Remstar and it was somewhat tolerable.

I cant believe what a difference the Intellipap made! Now the Remstar is supposed to be quiet, but with the tubing hooked up to you and touching your body the sound reverberates right to your ear. The Intellipap is so damned quiet that even after a month of use I sometimes think it isnt working and pull the nares out and then get rewarded with a blast of air!

Also gone are the air leakages blasting air on my nose and in my eyes.

I tried several different combinations of machine/masks and one constant held true. The Intellipap was a magnitude better than the Remstar.

It is really counter-intuitive, but the mask is not the key component in having good therapy. I'd like to hear if others have had any similar experiences

Oh, I completely agree with you. For people who like its algorithm, the Intellipap can't be beat. Also, its online data capability is so user friendly, it hurts...lolol

My IntelliPAPs are my favorite machines.
